Battery Health Monitoring System (MICRO-CONTROLLER BASED)

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF THE BATTERY HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM
The Battery Health Monitoring System (BHMS) measures individual cell voltage periodically during charging , discharging and also in idle mode. Individual cell voltage is compared with the average of all the cell voltages of the battery. The voltage pattern of the cells are then a to check that a particular cell is normal or weak . If a particular cell is found weak an audio-visual alarm annunciation is generated. Total number of weak cells and the cell numbers are available on the LCD display mounted on the front panel of the BHMS. The individual cell voltage can also be seen on the LCD display. Number of switches and LEDs have been provided on the front panel for the user. Functional description of the front panel:

Switches :

  1. 'POWER ON' toggle switch : - to power on the monitoring unit
  2. 'VOLT/STATUS' push button switch : it is a dual mode switch.
    1. Mode1 - to see the individual cell voltage this switch is to be pressed first. The LCD displays 'CELL NO'.
    2. Mode2 - to check the week cell numbers , this switch is to be pressed again. The LCD will display 'WEAK CELL'
  3. 'INC switch : In model, to see the next cell voltage this switch is to be pressed. In mode2, to check the next weak cell is switch is to be Pressed.
  4. 'DEC switch : In model, to see the previous cell voltage this switch is to be pressed.
  5. 'ACCEPT' switch : At the time of alarm annunciation if the switch is pressed, audio signal goes off.

LEDs

  1. POWER ON LED : When the BHMS is switched on this LED glows.
  2. ALARM LED : When a cell is found week this LED glows

BATTERY HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

  1. MEASURES INDIVIDUAL CELL VOLTAGE WITH AN ACCURACY OF 0.05V
  2. DETECTS DEFECTIVE CELLS
  3. GENERATES AUDIO-VISUAL ALARM THE MOMENT A CELL IS DETECTED DEFECTIVE
  4. A CELL IS DECECTED DEFECTIVE BASED ON THE VOLTAGE PATTERN DURING CHARGE / DISCHARGE OPERATION AS COMPARED WITH A NORMAL ACCEPTABLE VOLTAGE PATTERN
  5. MEASURED CELL VOLTAGES CAN BE SEEN ON THE LCD DISPLAY
  6. DEFECTIVE CELL NUMBERS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ON THE LCD DISPLAY
  7. THE DESIGN IS MICRO-CONTROLLER BASED
