A catheterization laboratory or cath lab technician is a professional who works in the field of cardiovascular technology. Cath lab technicians are responsible for ensuring the EKG equipment is in working order, and during the procedure, the technologist will monitor the EKG readouts and keep the doctor apprised of anything considered abnormal. The technologist will also prepare the patient for the procedure by cleaning, shaving, and, in the case of cardiac catheterization for angioplasty, anesthetizing the area of insertion. In some hospitals, the cardiovascular technologist will assist doctors during open heartsurgery, and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents. Again, the technologist will be the one responsible for preparing and monitoring the patient in these instances.

Daily non-surgical duties include reading and interpreting test procedures and explaining the procedures to patients. The course entails training of students in both theoretical and practical aspects of Cathlab technology.

Diploma in Perfusion Technicians' Course(DPFT):

One of the major medical technological breakthroughs in the last 50 years is the development of Heart-Lung Machine. This was devised to maintain the human body in living condition, even when the heart and lungs are not functioning. The removal of carbon dioxide from and addition of oxygen to the blood takes place through it. This enables the surgeon to make necessary cardiac repairs. A perfusionist is a skilled allied health professional, trained and educated specifically as a member of an open-heart surgical team, responsible for the selection, setup and operation of a Heart-Lung Machine and other life support system like IABP, LVAD, RVAD & ECMO. The course entails training of students in both theoretical and practical aspects of perfusion technology.

Diploma in Dialysis Technicians' Course :

Dialysis technicians monitor and operate dialysis machinery, which removes waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys are no longer functioning properly. In addition to preparingpatients and monitoring dialysis treatment, dialysis technicians also prepare post treatment reports. They also work on protocols for equipment evaluation and training materials for patients and staff. Dialysis technicians generally work under aphysician or nurse's supervision, usually in a hospital, clinic or home-dialysis program. The course entails training of students in both theoretical and practical aspects of dialysis technology.

Diploma in Optometry Technicians' Course (DOPT):

As Optometric technicians, or opticians, the main duty will involve assisting with patient eye care and examination, helping with the maintenance of patient records and handling some technical duties involving equipment and eyeglass preparation.

When working with patients, the technician will help prepare patients before an examination by gathering medical history information, explaining the exam process and administering tests to determine the visual capabilities of a patient. They willalso perform some therapy exercises or procedures with the patient. Record keeping duties, such as monitoring inventory within exam rooms or in the laboratory and keeping notes during an examination, may also be part of the job.

Their work with patients may extend to after the exam when they will require to do minor repairs of broken or damaged glasses, educate patients on how to care for their contact lenses or glasses, advise during frame selection and take measurements for the preparation of lenses. In the laboratory, they will also help with the creation of lenses and construction of glasses, minor maintenance and repair for examination equipment.
