pregnancy

Care of a woman in pregnancy is described in ayurveda under Garbhini Vyakaran. Management of pregnancy and the problems of pregnancy are described in separate chapters such as general management, special management, diseases in pregnancy and their treatment and so on.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine system disorder among women of reproductive age. In Ayurveda various menstrual issues is mentioned under artava vaha sroto dushti. PCOS is a complex disorder which falls in artava kshaya, anartava, rasa vaha sroto dushti and medo vaha sroto dushti.

Leucorrhoea

The causative factors (especially food) can result in aggravation of Kapha Dosha. This increased Kapha, along with other factors, can impair the Rasa Dhatu (nutrient plasma) present in the vaginal tract, ultimately leading to the painless discharge of white colored fluid from the vagina. Ayurvedic treatment of Leucorrhoea consists of restoring the digestive fire of the body in order to cleanse the accumulated toxins and balance Kapha. Rejuvenating herbs are then prescribed to tone the reproductive system.

Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is referred to as Kashtartav in Ayurveda. Apana Vayu, a subclass of Vata or wind dosha and mainly located in the pelvic region (pelvic floor) plays a significant role in menstruation. It is this Apana Vayu that controls and regulates the menstruation or Aartav in women (ensures that there is a healthy and normal menstrual cycle). The Apana Vayu usually flows in a down and out direction.

From Ayurvedic perspectives, liver cirrhosis reflects extreme aggravation of pitta dosha. Since liver is a seat of pitta, aggravated pitta affects the liver function and later vitiates other doshas as well. Rasa and rakta dhatus are particularly intoxicated while other dhatus too become weak.

This tract doesn't heal easily and the patient suffers from severe pain when he or she sits. Fistula has two openings - one at the anal canal & the other on the outer surface, probably as a pore, wherein it can be felt and seen as an abscess.

Piles or Arsh

Piles or Arsh is caused by a faulty diet and sedentary lifestyle which lead to the vitiation (impairment) of all three doshas, and predominantly Vata (air). Vitiated Vata causes low digestive fire, leading to persistent constipation. Accumulation of waste products in the body and varicose veins in the rectum also contribute to the development of haemorrhoids.

The Ayurvedic line of treatment for hypertension is aimed at identifying the root cause of the condition and then administering herbs that can eradicate the problem from its roots. Allergies are an overreaction of the body's immune system to specific substances that it misidentifies as harmful. This overreaction of the body's immune system is known as an allergic reaction and the substances that cause it are called allergens. Ayurveda regards allergy as a disorder caused by impaired digestion, which is why preliminary symptoms may include indigestion, constipation or diarrhea. This dysfunction in the digestive process is the cause of the hypersensitivity to certain substances, such as dust and pollen that triggers the allergic attacks.

Parkinsons is co-related with kampavata in ayurveda. In old age vata dosha is more predominant in the body. heart disease

Ayurveda has designated heart as an origin of channel of rasa dhatu (which is first tissue out of seven recognized tissues). This rasa dhatu is formed after digestion of food by gastric fire. Weak gastric fire, consumption of improper diet, mental stress etc lead to production of toxic, vitiated rasa dhatu. Toxins (ama) from rasa dhatu go into the heart and create blockages in channels. Such blockages result in IHD.

acne

Ayurveda has a singular approach to all forms of acne as this problem appears due to imbalance of the three doshas - vata, pitta and kapha.
