Dr. Balaram Chakraborty has a profound knowledge on environmental subjects, with proper soil health care and plantation of Jatropha the barren areas are becoming green and productive. It will generate employment as well as income for the unemployed .In addition to Agricultural labour, the college students also remain unemployed after they pass out from their college. This Plantation program has to provide a bridge for their transition from the world of study to the world of agriculture and Industry by linking the College-Botany and Agriculture and Chemistry (Oil Technology) with Jatropha farming and eventual Bio-Diesel production.
 
Cultivation of Jatropha will also provide:
  • Nutrients for soil.
  • Check erosion of soil and land degradation.
  • Produce Bio-diesel and other by-products like soap (from glycerol, a
  • By-product of Bio-diesel) and Bio-fertilizer (from Jatropha oiI-cake)etc.
  • Create employment and generate income in the* rural sector to alleviate poverty.
  • Increased employment of women in planting Jatropha and for collection of Jatropha Seeds from the Jatropha plants.
