The renowned Modern Bengali Poet, Uttam Das was born on 11th December, 1939 at the Village, Char Alexander of Noakhali district of Bangladesh. His father, Kumad Bandhu Das and mother, Chhabi Das. In 1947 at his age of 8 years, They had to come finally in India as his family had to stay in different places before finally settled in Baruipur in his teenage. He had completed an M.A. on Bengali Literature from Calcutta University in 1963 and achieved the Ph.D. for his book, “Bangla Sahitye Sonnet” in 1971. He was the Head of the Department of Bengali in Khiderpur College of Kolkata. He had started the poetry Magazine, named “Bahni Shikha” (1959-1964) in his collage life. Presently, he is engaged for the little magazine, “Mahadiganta” (since 1974). He was the co-editor of the magazine, “Kabi-o-Kabita” edited by poet- Prof. Jagdish Bhattacharya for over 18 years. His natural talent on Poetry is confined by core and nature. A simple but deep rooted feeling on the environment of Bengal has influenced his literary creations in spite of his international tour experience. He had toured nationally and internationally in many times. He had traveled in Belgium, Holand, Astria, Germany, Venice-Florence-Rome-Italy, Swezerland, France, England, Bangladesh for various cultural participations. His wife, Malabika (Professor), danghter, Malini (Teacher on Spanish language in U.K), son Mayuksh, M.Sc (Economices) of Calcutta University.
