                                       Dupuytren s disease is a
                                      benign proliferative disease occurring in
                                      the palmar and digital fascia producing
                                      nodules, cords & contractures. These
                                      cause progressive flexion contractures of
                                      the digits especially at
                                      metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal
                                      joint level. The ring and little fingers
                                      are most commonly affected. More
                                      aggressive forms of the disease include
                                      bilateral involvement, ectopic lesions
                                      (penile fibromatosis   Peyronie s disease,
                                      and plantar fibromatosis   Ledderhose
                                      disease). 
                                       
                                      This disease is most commonly seen amongst
                                      Caucasian males of northern European
                                      ancestry. Associated links have been found
                                      with diabetes, trauma, especially manual
                                      vibration tool use, epilepsy and use of
                                      antiepileptic drugs, autoimmune diseases,
                                      HIV, smoking and alcoholic liver disease.
                                      The incidence is high in the west but
                                      sporadic cases have been reported from
                                      Africa and Asia.
