                  Kum Kum Bhattacharya, a dedicated soul to Music, is  recognized in the   world of ardent music lovers as one of the exceptionally  talented and   versatile performers in the field of Indian Music.  
                     
                       She was born in North Kolkata with a rich   heritage of  19th Century Renaissance Culture. She was  initiated in the   vocal music by her mother in her childhood. As she  showed great   promise quite at her early age she was picked up for formal  training   in' vocal music by Late Netai Das  Sanyal, disciple of Ustad Amir Khan.   As she completed her initial  training under the renowned maestro CHINMOY LAHIRI. Under   the tutelage  of this great musician for about twelve  years, Kumkum   made great progress. She  enriched her classical training by getting   further lessons from USTAD SAGIRUDDIN KHAN and from USTAD MUNAWAR ALI KHAN. She added to her repertoire of songs by getting lessons in light modern Bengali songs from LATE NACHIKETA  GHOSE, in Tagore song from SMT BANDANA SINGHA and in nazrul sangeet from LATE MANABENDRA MUKHERJEE. She also  took music lesson from the great ghazal maestro MEHDI HASSAN of  Pakistan. And thumri from SMT. NAINA DEVI.   
        
         Kumkum is   a graduate from Calcutta University  and has added to her musical   qualification the degrees of Sangeet Praveen, Sangeet Prabar (M. Music).   She has  suitably learned Ghazal, language  and the particular "MIZAJ" of Urdu poetry from renowned Urdu Poet Fe Seen Ejaz.  
 
             She is now  attached with Arya Kanya   Mahavidyalaya, Avinab Bharti School, AIR, Doordarshan, Bangiya Sangeet   Parishad, Prayag Sangeet Samity, and Gandharva  Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai.   She also associate with APPS.  
 
                                She   performed all over India,  getting his appreciation from her audience   and acted as a conveyor of good will  and spirit of national   integration. She went to Bangladesh, Nepal, London, USA,  Thailand and   Japan. Everywhere she received high applause  for her selection of   verses matching the tune  to the best suited "Raga And Laya".  She virtually stole the shows by her enchanting performance. In 1989 Ustad  Mehdi Hassan presented Kumkum at Birla Sabhaghar. She performed with Janab Gulam Ali Khan Sahab in  memory of Ustad Munwar Ali Khan underthe banner of Calcutta Music Circle organised by Sri Badal  Dhar Chowdhury. In 1992 she  performed in 'GANGA FESTIVAL' at Hrishikesh with renowned Playback and Ghazal singer Sri Hariharan. 
 
                    Her cassettes KHUSBU-E-GHA2AL from Gathani Records, RAANAIYAN from Music India, HINDI  RABINDRASANGEETfrom U.D. Cassette, RADHAR AVISHAR in Bengali  from Gathani Records and HINDI NAZRUL  GITI/KHOLA MONE from the same have created a great sensation among the  music lovers. 
 
                                                           Her music  direction in the historical play RAJA WAZED ALI SHAH of  Chorus group and in ARIBBAS and HELLO CHUMKI of Sarcarina  Theatre bears great testimony to her originality and creative faculty. 
 
                                                                         She has projected  herself as a successful play back singer in   Broja Buli of UTTAM  KUMAR, INDUBALA (Serial) Music by KALYAN  SEN BARAT, Music by Jatileswar  Mukherjee and in Film AGNI, GAYER MEYE SHOHORER BOU etc. 
 
                                                                                                                                      She has directed to the admiration of all concerned,  the opening song of 3rd SAF GAMES, 1987,  Calcutta. MINI NATIONAL SCHOOL  GAMES and Celebration of 300  YEARS OF CALCUTTA CITY.                          
                    She was honoured with SIRNAMA award by BANGIYA  CHALACHITRA PROCHAR SAMITY. She was nominated for National Integration  Award.  |
