  • A school bus has been purchased for transporting the mentally retarded ones with the aid of Living with Dignity Foundation, USA. The Bus was handed over to us by General Shankar Roy Chaudhury, President Living with Dignity, Kolkata, in presence of Prabir Roy, President Living with Dignity Foundation, USA. Sri Nirmal Mukherjee, Mayor in Council KMC and many other dignitaries were present during inauguration of the bus on 10th January, 2008. On this eve, the children displayed song, drama and choreography before the dignitaries, parents and visitors.
  • The foundation stone of a 3 storied building for the home for residential care was laid by General Shankar Roy Chaudhury, President Living with Dignity, Kolkata, in presence of Prabir Roy, President Living with Dignity Foundation, USA on the same day. The building is to come up very soon.
  • Adjudged as the Best Parents Association in India and awarded Premlata Peshawaria National Award, 2006.
 
  • Students of Behala Bodhayan participated in Special Olympics at the national level and also in canada and the USA.
  • The team of dedicated Special Educators, Therapists, Doctors and Parent Members are playing a pivotal role in turning the lives of the Special Children to a remarkable height.
  • Behala Bodhayan was one of the prime movers of the National Trust Bill and made significant contributions at the Seminar held at NIMH, Securnderabad in june 1997 to chalk out the outline of the National Trust which was later on enacted in the year 1999.

      The students in the Talent Hunt for the special children organized by West Bengal Govt. (Mass Education Dept.) owned the first prize in Drama Competition.

Outstanding Achievements :
 
 
  1. SAMARTH-CBS Centre : Running the Samarth-CBS Centre of the National Trust since 1st July, 2006 and maintaining optimum quality of services, food and accommodation. Inaugurated by the National Trust Chairperson on 27th October, 2006 and followed by the CEO's visit on 5th October, 2007. The Inspecting Team pays frequent visits for evaluation of the services being provided.

  2. DLRO : Behala Bodhayan had worked as the District Level Resource Organisation of the Sarva Shiksha Mission, Kolkata from 1st July 2004 to 31st December, 2010. Under this contract, we had engaged 12 Special Educators who were placed in-charge of the Primary and High Schools for the normal children under the Kolkata Municipal Ward No.120-130 and identified children with disabilities. Apart from conducting awareness and medical camps for the disabled and underprivileged, our Special Educators also tried to identify drop-out children and arrange for their admission in the schools.

  3. Vocational Training Centre : With the National Trust's policy of vocational training and income generation activities for the SAMARTH Residents, we have given sufficient stress on this issue. We had made an arrangement with the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped, Kolkata for Centre-Based Vocational Training Programme (CBVT). A team of Instructors visited our Centre and imparted Vocational Training to our adult students including 11 residents of the SAMARTH-CBS for 1 year. They had undergone training in various trades such as candle making, carpentry, and paper bag making. During the course of training the trainees received scholarships and on completion, a certificate and registration card from the Employment Exchange. They are making File Covers, Envelopes, Board Files etc.and we are selling these items to Sarva Shiksha Mission, Kolkata, Mass Education Extension Department and Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission etc. We had also sent 12 of our students / Samarth residence to ATDC for training which was sponsored by the National Trust.

  4. Food Processing Unit : We are running a Food Processing Unit under our  Nari Shilpa Niketan. The SAMARTH Residents and other students of our vocational unit, as well as poor women of the locality prepare food items like Jam, Tomato Sauce, Vinegar and other products of Grade I quality. Our products under the Brand name Caprio has got FPO Registration and are marketed locally. Our endeavour is to provide employment and rehabilitation to our Samarth Residents and students of our Special school.

  5. Medical Camp : We had organized a Medical Camp in association with the Commissioner for the Persons with Disabilities and the National Medical College, Kolkata on 12th March, 2008 where 83 individuals were issued with Medical Certificates, Disability Identity Cards and Railway Concession Certificates. We had also conducted 3 Screening Camps on 19th, 21st and 26th of August 2010 for Ward Nos. 122 to 125, Nos.130 to 132, and Ward Nos. 126 to 129 respectively followed by Final Medical Camps.

  6. Outside Employment : Shri Pinku Das, Sudeb Kabiraj and Sanjoy Bhattacharya have secured employment in the open market amongst others.
