Presently working as  Consultant in the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma at Peerless Hospital & B.K.Roy Research Centre, Kolkata with independent OPD; OT and admission rights.

DURING THIS PERIOD GAINED EXERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF :

  1. Started work as a Junior Resident Doctor, from 08.02.1990 till 30.06.1990 in the Department of surgery in St.Stephen’s Hospital, Tis Hazari, New Delhi, which is recognized by Medical Council of India.

    CLINICAL COMMITMENT: To attend OPD twice a week with daily turnover of more than 100 patients. To supervise the work of In-patients department with an average of 60 – 80 patients. The total number of indoor patients annually was about 1800. The patient mainly involved gastro surgery, colo- rectal cases and a rotation in Onco-surgery Unit of 1 month.

    OPERATION THEATRE: Three times a week in the form of Routine surgery. The OT’s complex had four Operation theatres which were equipped with available updated instruments. Apart from this there was an Emergency OT which was well equipped and was essentially managed by the Residents under supervision of Junior /Associated Consultants. The average number of patients operated every year in the department was around 1200.

    ON CALL DUTIES: Twice a week for 24 hrs. The responsibility involved decision-making regarding all sorts of surgical emergencies, chest, neurosurgical trauma, abdominal emergency patient’s care, under guidance of the Senior Resident and Consultant in Charge.

    DEPARTMENTAL WORK: The Department had DNB Surgery and all residents took active part in the organization of conferences, seminars and lectures. Responsible for record keeping of various patients in pre operative, postoperative period and follow-ups and monthly clinical audits.

    DURING THIS PERIOD GAINED EXERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF :


    Basic surgical training in abdominal surgeries, neuro surgeries, plastic reconstruction and chest trauma and approach towards concerted / protocolised management of various cases.

  2. Worked as a Resident House Officer from 08.08.1990 till 20.07.1992 in The Department of ENT (08.08.90- 31.10.90) and Department of Orthopedics and trauma (01.11.90 – 20.07.92) at Calcutta Medical Research Institute, Kolkata.

    CLINICAL COMMITMENT: To attend OPD twice a week with daily turnover of more than 80 patients. To supervise the work of In-patients department with an average of 50 – 60 patients. The total number of indoor patients annually was about 1500.

    OPERATION THEATRE: Two times a week in the form of assisting routine orthopaedics surgeries including elective trauma, limb reconstruction, corrective surgeries – deformities using various modalities. . The OT’s were equipped with one IITV,  portable x-rays, operating microscopes ,orthopaedic instruments, various power instruments, fracture tables along with accessories. Apart from this there was an Emergency OT which was well equipped and catered to emergency surgical procedures primarily trauma. The average number of patients operated every year in the department was around 1200.

    ON CALL DUTIES:  Twice a week for 24 hrs. The responsibility involved decision-making regarding trauma patient’s emergency care, surgical procedures and fracture management and emergency surgeries.

    DEPARTMENTAL WORK: Took active part in the organization of conferences, seminars and lectures. Responsible for record keeping of various patients in pre operative, postoperative period and follow-ups.

    DURING THIS PERIOD GAINED EXERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF :

    Orthopedics and Traumatology, Peripheral vascular Injuries, management of both blunt and closed chest trauma, management of head injured patient, besides routine orthopedics surgeries.

  3. Joined Peerless Hospital and B.K.Roy Research Centre, Kolkata as Junior Resident House Officer on 24.04.1993 in the Department of Surgery and allied subjects. I was reassigned in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology after its formation a couple of months later.
    Actively participated with the hospital authorities to commission various departments including the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology.
    CLINICAL COMMITMENT: Attended OPD all days in the week.

    OPERATION THEATRE: Assisted in the maiden surgical procedure of the Emergency Operation theatre of the hospital and   took active part in helping to commission all the other Main Operation Theatres. The OT’s are equipped with IITV, portable x-rays, advanced orthopaedic instruments AO tools, various power instruments, fracture tables along with accessories. Apart from this there is an Emergency OT which is well equipped .Assisted in various routine orthopedic surgeries including elective trauma using basic and advanced AO Instrumentation , Arthroplasty and joint reconstructive procedures using the latest technologies available, Arthroscopic procedures of the knee .

    ON CALL DUTIES: Was available on call all days in the week with responsibilities involving decision-making regarding trauma patient’s emergency care, surgical procedures and fracture management and arranging and assisting emergency surgeries.

    DEPARTMENTAL WORK: Took active part in the organization of conferences, seminars and lectures. Responsible for record keeping of various patients in pre operative, postoperative period and follow-ups.

    DURING THIS PERIOD GAINED EXERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF :

    Advanced AO instruments and techniques, Joint Replacements, Spine surgeries and comprehensive Polytrauma management and patient care. Also had experience in Illizarov limb reconstruction system and advanced and basic arthroscopic surgery of primarily the knee.

  4. Was Re - designated as Registrar in the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma at Peerless Hospital & B.K.Roy Research Centre from 01.04.1994 till 16.08.2008.

    In addition to the clinical duties of the Junior Resident, additional responsibilities in assisting the Departmental Head for smooth functioning of the Department administratively, which involved coordinating the work of other residents, assisting the EMO’s, and helped in compilation of Departmental budgets.

    Also assisted all the other visiting consultants in the OPD & OT.
    Took active part in organizing various seminars, lectures by foreign faculties, orthopedic seminars and symposiums both promotional and educational.
    Took active participation in commissioning the ITU in the initial weeks after its inauguration

    .DURING THIS PERIOD GAINED EXERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF :

    Clinical :- Advanced AO instruments and techniques, Joint Replacements, Spine surgeries and comprehensive Polytrauma management and patient care, in Illizarov limb reconstruction system , advanced and basic arthroscopic surgery of primarily the knee and ankle, management of orthopedic oncology .

    Academic commitments: - Was instrumental in starting DNB course in te Orthopedics Surgery from 2003 .Assisted the DNB trainees in their thesis work.

    Departmental Commitments :
    Coordinated with the various other departments to ensure smooth functioning of the orthopedics Department.  Facilitated implementation of decisions taken by Hospital management from time to time and the Departmental Head. Took active part in maintaining Implant inventory in the operation theatres along with the OT executives and OT mangers and took part in departmental implant and instrument audit as and when decided by the hospital management. 

  5. Joined as DNB Orthopaedic Post graduate trainee – 16/08/2008 - 15/08/2011: Worked as Post graduate trainee in Department of Orthopaedics & Trauma at Peerless Hospital & B.K.Roy Research Centre Kolkata under the guidance of Dr Prabir Kumar Banerji It is a specialized department where all traumas, Arthroplasty, spine, Illizarov, arthroscopy, tumor and paediatric surgeries are routinely performed.

    CLINICAL COMMITMENT: To attend OPD six times a week, with weekly turnover of more than 300 patients. To supervise the work of In-patients department with an average of 40 - 60 patients at one time.

    OPERATION THEATRE: Six times a week in the Routine operations complex with three Operation theatres. Consisting of a Dedicated Orthopaedics OT for arthroplasty.  The Emergency Complex has a operation theatre where we deal with the emergency polytrauma cases. The average number of patients operated every year in the department is around 800. The OT’s are equipped with two IITVs, various power instruments, AO instrumentations, and two fracture tables besides other accessories. Two of the three theatres are provided with Laminar Air Flow and Sterard sterilizer.

    ON CALL DUTIES: Second on call- the responsibilities involves decision-making regarding trauma patient’s care, surgical procedures and supervision of work of on call junior residents.

    ACADEMICS: Clinical and surgical training as per stipulation of DNB. Clinical teaching, topic seminars and case presentations. During this period attended different conferences. I have also helped all the consultants regularly in preparing papers /dissertations and presentations for several national and international conferences.

    DURING THIS PERIOD GAINED EXERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF :

  6. TRAUMA: Hands on experience in Closed Reduction and ORIF/CRIF of various extra articular and intraarticular fractures includingexternal fixators, latest nailing systems, MIPO techniques, advanced instrumentations such as locking plates. Trained by Dr.P.
    K.Banerji who is a pioneer and hasushered a revolution in orthopedic Surgery in this part of the country. 

    Under his mentorship this Department is one of the leading tertiary orthopedic service providers in this part of the country. Thisinstitutionis proposed nodal AO Centre for training.

    JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERIES: Assisted in over 300 replacement surgeries per year with Dr.P.K.Banerji since 1994.Dr P.K.Banerji happens to be a pioneer as regards arthroplasty and this Hospital is J&J Centre of Excellence for Arthroplasty.  Surgeries included numerous primary and revision arthroplasty. During this period assisted around 8500 fixed bearing and rotating platform knees and
    numerous unicondylar kneereplacements. Performed hemi replacements using bimodular bipolar prosthesis. Well trained with the
    use of “CAS (Computer assisted surgery) for Total Knee Replacement and Articular surface replacement of the hip.

    ARTHROSCOPY : Trained in various arthroscopy procedures round the knee such as menisectomy, ACL reconstruction, and PCL reconstruction and assisted around the shoulder arthroscopic surgeries (sub acromion decompression, bankarts repair) and other joints such as ankle.

    SPINE SURGERIES : Hands on experience in surgeries for PID, Fracture of the spine, Koch’s Spine.  Assisted in various surgeries like anterior instrumentation for Koch Spine, Posterior instrumentation for fractures of spine and spondylolisthesis correction and ALIF.

    ILIZAROV : Operated and assisted in treatment of Gap and infective Nonunion, deformity correction and bone lengthening.

    PAEDIATRIC SURGERY :
    Hands on experience in management of CTEV and little deformity correction like idiopathic genu valgum, posttraumatic cubitus varus and valgus.

    HAND SURGERY :  Assisted in surgeries such as tendon transfers, arthrolysis, and fractures andtendoninjuries managements. Wellversed with the use of JESS and other small external fixator systems.

    Thesis : Functional assessment of unstable Trochanteric fractures managed by dynamic Hip Screw and Trochanteric stabilization plate.- Accepted by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
