Low Vision Aid:

What is Low Vision?

Low Vision is partial loss of sight. Unfortunately their conditions are neither curable medically nor correctable optically by conventional spectacles, contact lenses etc. As such, these people may find it difficult to recognize faces ; to carry out their routine work such as walking, marketing etc. A significant number of these people can however find LOW VISION AIDS useful, so that they can perform their tasks, which otherwise they could not.

A person is said to have Low Vision, if his corrected vision in the best eye is 6/60 or less. WHO study (1966) found 65 different definitions for classifying blind around the world. Mostly WHO classifies low vision patients into different groups (Grade I to V) according to their functional impairment.

A person who may have 6/18 or more, but has a gross field effect- the field of vision being 20 degree or less, is also said to have
low vision.
