Q 1. I am 40 years old, got 2 children, I have got 2 fibroid Tumors in my uterus, but I am scared about having a big open cut on my abdomen during operation. The thought of the pain, the horrible scar and the compulsory rest for a long time terrifies me! Is there any way out?

Ans: Yes,   certainly there   is nothing to be scared about.   Be assured that by amazing latest & modern procedures, there is no need for an open cut on the abdomen in order to remove the uterus. The entire surgery is done through tiny 0.5-1cm.key holes. By this process entire tumours, cysts and uterus can be removed. This is called "Keyhole"  or  Laparoscopic  Surgery.

Q 2. My daughter is 20 years  old,   yet  to be married.  She  has  got  a large cyst in her right ovary . We can’t to avoid an open cut on the abdomen.

Ans: Don't  be  worried !  By modern  procedures, cysts  are removed   by, "minimally Invasive"   or   Laparoscopic Surgery.   Even  if  the cyst is A large, not only  is  the  entire  cyst  removed,  but  the  ovary is  saved so  that  there  is  no problem  in child bearing in future. After surgery, there  is  minimal   discomfort. She shall  be discharged  in 1-2  days and resume her usual  activities within  1-2  weeks.

Q 3. My age is 32 years.  I have one child. Every month I have excessive menstral   bleeding.   On all ultrasonography, the uterus is swollen but there are no tumours.   Is there any other way except an operation?

Ans: No, there is no need of any operation and no need to remove the uterus. A small balloon is inserted inside the uterus, and heat applied through it to shrink the inner lining of the uterus. This balloon treatment will  control the excessive menstral bleeding. The patient is discharged on the same day. Alternatively a Progesterone device (mirena) may be placed inside the uterus. It stays for 7 years and   controls  the excessive bleeding.

Q 4 .My mother is 60 years old and got her menopause (Stoppage of menstrual bleeding) 12 years ago. Suddenly she started having irregular bleeding since a week ago.  She is scared  of  any operation.

Ans: No, there is no need of an operation right now. But we need to be cautions. Often such bleeding is caused by uterine polyp, Infection, Hormonal deficiency /uterine atrophy, she needs an Ultrasonography of uterus and ovaries. Then with an instrument called Hysteroscope, the inside of the items is viewed and samples taken to rule out malignancy.

Q 5. I am suffering from lower abdominal pain for more than 6 months. Prolonged treatment had  no    effect.  Even ultrasonography  and  other investigation  showed  no abnormality.

Ans: Chronic lower abdominal pain may be caused by undetected endometriosis, Pelvic venous congestion infection, adhesion etc.  The best procedure to detect the cause is  by laparoscopy, because the treatment can be done at the same sitting without any  large  cut  in  the  abdomen.
