Membership Rules

Ananda Kanan (AK) will provide its inmates accommodation & food - and more importantly, a purposeful community life for its residents and married couples.

Membership will be against payment of a one-time donation and deposits in Medical Fund and a monthly fee, as fixed by the Sanstha.

  • Resident members should be 60 years of age or above, whose circumstances should justify their stay in AK. The Sanstha will be the sole authority for admitting and expelling members in exceptional cases, for causing hindrance / endangerment to community living.
  • A member may pursue any vocation unless barred by the rules of AK.
  • Members should be in reasonably good health when they enter AK and should willingly participate in the social activities of AK as and when required. It is to be noted that AK is not intended to be a hospice or a resting place without activities, instead, it will engage the residents in work according to their capability and physical ability for the benefit of the residents and the community at large.
  • An acceptable medical certificate testifying good health and freedom from communicable diseases is essential before admission. An additional Medical Checkup may also be organized at the site by AK approved medicos, before admission, on payment of required free by applicants in advance.
  • The affairs of AK will be conducted by a committee to be nominated by the Sanstha and will include the Secretary and at least two other representatives of the Sanstha, in due course and a few resident members of AK.
  • AK will be run on a non-trading basis but keeping in mind the project’s financial viability at all times. There may be provisions in the Rules & Regulations of AK for refund or replenishment of Medical Fund and residual balance of Medical Fund, especially in case of withdrawal of membership or demise of a resident member. These amounts will however bear no interest.
  • Resident members will have no lien on the lumpsum payments, unless provided in the rules and regulations of AK: Statement of accounts will be available to the contributors / residents each year and, if possible, half yearly for purpose of transparency.
  • Unlike many other old age homes (which do not take care of the boarders during major illness) AK will take care of boarders during their illness, provided they ask for it and can arrange for the finance. Moreover one of the referees of the patient has to agree to be part of the Care Team.
  • Taking this into consideration AK has planned to develop two medical funds: Additional Medical Aid Fund (AMAF) and Emergency Medical Relief Fund (EMRF).

ADDITIONAL MEDICAL AID FUND (AMAF)
AMAF is an optional scheme.

If a member wishes for AK to take care of him / her during any medical emergency, in much the same way as would her / his family. The member will have to deposit an additional amount of Rupees two lakhs with the Sanstha. This amount will be invested with a Bank / Postal Department or in some other suitable scheme in the member's name, who will have to authorize the Sanstha to utilize the money on his behalf during his illness. The amount of deposit may have to be increased if and when necessary.

Fifty percent (50%) of the interest earned will be utilized in creating a common Emergency Medical Relief Fund (EMRF), 20% will be given to the resident-contributor as pocket money, while the balance 30% will be retained by Samatat Sanstha for creating, a Special Reserve Fund (SRF).

A member may reimburse the amount spent on his / her illness if he / she wishes to avail of the same benefit next time.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RELIEF FUND (EMRF)

In case the cost of treatment exceeds the sum deposited in AMAF, the EMRF may be utilized after a minimum membership period of 3 years (provided the fund is sufficient and subject to the approval of the fund management Sub-committee) for the completion of the treatment. The overdrawn amount will have to be reimbursed later.

The management and monitoring of both the funds will be under the control of the sub-committee which will comprise a boarders’ representative, three representatives of the Sanstha and the doctor-in-charge of routine medical check up.

In case of death of a member, the balance fund will be handed over to the nominee of the member, or to any voluntary organization including Samatat Sanstha, as desired by the member before his / her death in writing.

SPECIAL RESERVE FUND (SRF)
Provision for paying honoraria to the resident members engaged in AK’s social welfare activities will come from SRF when builtup.
