  What is Low Vision ?

Low VISION is partial loss of sight. It occurs when functional vision cannot be corrected with spectacles or contact lenses, medical or surgical procedures.

A person is said to have Low VISION if his/her corrected vision in the best eye is 6/18 or less, or his/her field of vision is 20° or less.

Therefore, a Low VISION patient may have either poor visual acquity or visual field defect or both.

A Low VISION specialist does not cure the cause of Low VISION but judges the visual disturbances produced by the respective cause and tries to manage it with various kinds of devices in a way the patient can utilise his/her residual vision to its fullest potential.
