Vision has enormous implications of terms of health and welfare of the nation. Research has shown us in sports that even small visual deficiency in one eye can ruin the game of the athletes. Problems with the visual process that are not explained and understood can

have profound implications of the athletes and their immediate family and friends. Like many other occupations, sport is also an occupation which has highest visual demand. Straight forward implication of this is that occupational success relies on visual efficiency, but vision is very much important in general terms, because the ability to work efficiently or competing the sport at the highest level is directly related to our vision. It was clear that there was no debate about the protection from the trauma and non ionizing radiation. But the connection between the visual performance and the success on the sports field is far more problematic. The first source of information is through vision. A delay in receiving the information implies delay in response which in turn may lead to compromise in performance. Today in such a huge competitive sports where the difference between winner and loser fraction of seconds, this is very important. The biggest challenge was to establish the strong scientific basis for the understanding of vision in sports. Therefore, the science of Sportvision practice was introduced in the field of optometry. Originally originated in USA ,the science actually started to develop in UK in 1994.At the outset ,practice began to develop the work already started in USA. But the new researches have given it dynamic shape. In India, the science started to have its origin from the Himalaya Optical group where Mr Ajay Kr Bhootra ,Optometrist who is specially trained in Sportvision started to explore the implications of Sportvision science in the field of optometry. The vision in sport has an immediate application to athlete.. In a country where sports are on the dynamic front, it is essential that young talent is not disadvantaged by the visual deficiencies. The mission at Himalaya is to recharge the athletes certainly and all other occupations where this understanding of vision is important.
