Century
Extrusions Ltd (CEL) and Sangam
Aluminium Ltd. (SAL) both part of a group headed by Mr M P
Jhunjhunwala are engaged in manufacture of Aluminium Extrusions having a combined
capacity of 15000 MT per annum. While the plant of CEL is located at
Kharagpur in West Bengal, SALworks is located at Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
Apart
from extrusions, the group has interests in following manufacturing and selling
activities:

Manufacturing
facility for 3000MT per annum of secondary Aluminium Alloy Ingots and
deoxidents in the name of Century Aluminium Mfg. Co. Ltd. at Calcutta.

Manufacturing
facility for 9000MT of secondary Aluminium Alloy Ingots and 1200MT of
Pressure Die castings in the name of Century NF Castings at Faridabad near
Delhi.

Trading
in Aluminium and Aluminium Products as selling agents of Hindalco Industries
Ltd. at Calcutta.
The
combined group turnover for the year 1998-99 was approx. Rs.1.5 billion.
Production
facility: The group has four extrusion presses of 900T, 1250T,
1620T (at CEL, Kharagpur in West Bengal) and 2250T (at SAL, Hosur in Tamil Nadu)
capacities catering to a very large range of extrusions with CCD of 5mm to
255mm.
Both
CEL and SAL have complete in-house facilities, such as Die manufacturing with
CAD / CAM, Foundry for melting and casting of logs
besides the Extrusion Shop and a very well equipped Quality Control
Department.
The
land area on which the plants are located is approx. 7 acres each. The
production facilities at both the plants are mostly similar. The main Equipment,
i.e. the Extrusion Presses have been manufactured by M/s
CLECIM, France - 2250 T Press, M/s UBE INDUSTRIES, JAPAN - 1620 T Press
and M/s SIDDHARTH INDUSTRIES, INDIA - 1250 T Press and 900 T Press.
Quality
Assurance: We have excellent Quality Assurance / Control
Systems. Our Kharagpur Plant is accredited with ISO-9002 for its quality
systems.
We
usually supply extrusions in the
tolerances prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per IS-6477-1983 and
IS-2673-1979. Our processes are capable of meeting the dimensional, physical and
composition requirements of international standards
such as BS, DIN, JIS, ASTM etc.
Management:
The group is headed by Mr M P Jhunjhunwala, who is the Chairman & Managing
Director of Century Extrusions Ltd. and a Director in Sangam Aluminium Ltd. He
is assisted by a team of professionals who head different activities, such as
Finance, Marketing, Purchases, Projects and the entire activities of the Plants.
Staff
& Workmen strength: CEL employs 160 staff members and 260
permanent workmen. SAL employs 70 staff and 120 workmen.
