SUPPORTIVE AND INVOLVED FAMILIES

The Parent

We believe that a parent or guardian is a child's first and most important teacher; therefore we include parents in the learning process and insist on parental involvement in our program. We encourage and facilitate communication between home and school including an awareness of current trends in education and sharing planned activities for the children. We design our program to foster not only relationships between home and school but also between families of the children within each class and in the entire MY CHILD community.

Just as an active parent is essential to the success of an individual child, an active parent community is essential to the success of the school. We understand most parents are very busy. For this reason, we have developed the following list of involvement opportunities necessitating various levels of time and effort. Please do not feel limited by this list, as we intend it to serve as a springboard from which you may develop your own ideas for involvement.

A child learns skills and attitude from his/her parents starting from the very first day. Parents are their child's first most influential teachers. A home is a child's most important school. While all the children shall have the same advantage in the environment at MY CHILD, it is the home that makes the difference between good and excellent. So, please be a GOOD & RESPONSIBLE PARENT by proactive participation.

The Importance of Conversation

Talk to your child as much as possible and listen to what he/she has to say to you. Your child may have difficulty pronouncing some words, but he/she will learn if you continue to speak clearly. Answer your child's questions as simply, clearly, carefully and truthfully as possible.

The Importance of BOOKS

Please spend time reading to your child every day, this is the biggest investment you can make. Select books which are well illustrated and discuss the pictures. Encourage your child to reflect and predict. ASK questions such as "What has happened?" "What do you think might happen?" However, be careful not to spoil the story with too many questions.

  • Volunteer in your child's classroom.
  • Join the Parents' Group that meets at regularly scheduled times.
