Sudhendu
Mallick is a renowned Modern Bengali Poet. He was born in 1935
in Kolkata his home village is Kogram in Burdwan district. He
is the famous grand-son of the Legendary Bengali Poet, Kumud
Ranjan Mallick. He was the Judge, intellectual Literary personality
and famous Poet. Being inspired from his strong family background,
he has become one of the unique Poets in Bengali Literary arena.
In his literary career, he was much influenced by the life &
works of his grand father poet, Kumud Ranjan Mallick, holding
high spiritual & traditional values inherited from the earlier
poets. His father, Jyotsna Nath Mallick was distingushed judge,
jurist, educationist and noted literature writing in English
& Bengali. He had M.A. (Economies) degree and honors graduation
in Law from Calcutta University.
Mr.
Mallick was in Research Project under the economics Department
of Calcutta University for a short period at the beginning of
his professional tenure. Then he had started his career as a
Professor of Economics in Katoa College in 1958. After that,
he had joined in the State Judiciary in 1961.Then finally he
had become the honorable Judge of Calcutta High-Court in 1992.
Thereafter he became vice-chairman of the central Administrative
Tribunal. Where from, he retired in the year 2001. From his
early schooling age, he had started his writting of poems, stories,
short dramas etc.
His
first poem was published in the Magazine "Taruner Swpna"
in 1953. His first poetry book was "Hiranmoy Andhakar"
in 1963, published from Sabita Prakash Bhawan. His other published
Poetry Books are "Bristike Korechho Bristi" (1967),
"Keyake Sarbashra" (1972), "Sange Amar Balok
Krishna"(1979), "Patita Panthalic" (1992), "Sudhu
Swabda Sudhu Apeksha" (1995), "Dhanyabad Asesh Dhanyabad"
(1997). His latest book of poems is "Aei Sabai Amar Kabita"
(2004). He has co-edited the Literary magazine "Purba Megh"
(1954-1955). He was selected as "The National Poet"
representing bengali poetry literature by India Government in
1990 in bengali poetry literature. His poems are still being
published in all leading literal jourals in bengal. Some of
his poems has been translated from Bengali to English, Hindi,
German & French Languages. His poems are also to be found
included in English & Bengali collections published by Sahitya
Academy. His poems are outstanding contribution to neo-modern
Bengali Literature. The distinguishing features of his poems
are deep spiritual consciousness, leve for God, Nature and Humanity.
At the same time many of his poem reflect sharp satire against
all hypocrasies including social, political and religious. |
