Amit was born in the year 1962 in a musical family. He started learning santoor in the year 1983 with professor DULAL ROY (A well known santoor artiste of India). He took training with Professor Dulal Roy for Thirteen years. In the year 1997 he started learning from USTAD AASISH KHAN (A well known Sarod Maestro of Maihar Gharana) and Smt. AMINA PAERERA (Daughter of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Sahab). He was also learning Taal concept for many years from Professor Sankar Prasad Chowdhury and also from Pandit SWAPAN CHAUDHURI (A great Tabla Maestro of Lucknow Gharana). He also completed junior diploma from PRAYAG SANGEET SAMITY (Allahabad) in the year 2000 with 1st division and distinction. Senior diploma 2007 (i.e. Sangeet Prabhakar).

Amit performed in many concerts all over the places in Calcutta as well as many places all over India such as DHRUPADI MUSIC CIRCLE, DHWANI MUSIC CIRCLE, SURSAGAR SOCIETY, MEDHA MUSIC CIRCLE, RUPAK MUSIC CIRCLE, PARAMPARAH MUSIC CIRCLE, BHARATIYA SANSKRITI SAMSAD etc. In the year 1995 he has performed at Oberoi Grand Hotel at Kolkata. He also attended the workshop of USTAD ALI AKBAR KHAN SAHAB held at Sangeet Research Academy and as well as Rajya Sangeet Academy. He also performed in the MAHAMILAN MATH MUSIC FESTIVAL and ARABINDA ASHRAM in the year 2000. He was awarded by PHILANTHROPIC SOCIETY OF GREECE in the year 1999. Amit also performed in Tabla ensamble conducted by Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri in the concert organised by RUPAK at Uttam Mancha Calcutta in the year 2002. His performance was highly appreciated by the media and as well as by the audience. On 8th of November 2002 he also performed at Hyat Regency Banquet in the Concert organised by Escorts Pistons and on 10th at Kennel Worth Hotel. Performed in Sikkim festival on 2003. also in dover lane music festival (periodicals) in 2003. Having few students at Europe, America, England, Canada & India for last few years.

Played in the documentary film of Yogiraj Shyama Charan Lahiri & for West Bengal Government of Tourism in 2006 & 2007.

Recently releasing CD’s of Instrumental pieces from Sangita Sounds at England.
Founder of a unique East west musical band Colours.
