GOPAL
BANDOPADHYAY was born as the youngest son to late Bholanath Bandopadhyay, noteh
Kirtan Singer of the times, on 28th Januray 1956, in Barasat, 24 Pgs
(N), WB. He lost his father early in life and had to struggle hard against
crashing / grinding poverty for survival. He has to give up studies. Yet it is a
tribute to his immense love and passion for music that he sustained his interest
in mass and folk songs. Later, he engaged himself whole hearted to the learning
of instrumental music, collection and preservation of folk songs, cultivation
and studies of then and bringing them to a creative fruition. At present, he is
honoured with admission in different central and state government fora (Forums).
He has committed himself to the pledge of propagating and popularizing Bengali
& Assamese folk songs in different parts of the country.
