A music genre is a categorical and typological construct that identifies musical sounds as belonging to a particular category and type of music that can be distinguished from other types of music.
There are several approaches to genre. Some treat the terms genre and style as the same, and state that genre should be defined as pieces of music that share a certain style or "basic musical language". Others state that genre and style are two separate terms, and that secondary characteristics such as subject matter can also differentiate between genres. A music genre (or sub-genre) could be defined by the techniques, the styles, the context and the themes (content, spirit). Also, geographical origin sometimes is used to define the music genre, though a single geographical category will normally include a wide variety of sub-genres.

Kaushik
is one of the promising vocalists in India. His father
Late Nadiendu Goswami was an eminent scholar and
mother Smt. Bela Goswami is niece of great
musician Late Anupam Ghatak. That is how
he was brought up in and out in a musical environment right
from his childhood.
He learnt music from Sri Supati Ghosh, Sri Chinmoy
Bhattacharya and Sri Amaresh Chowdhury. He is one
of the notable disciples of Pandit Ajay Chakrabarty.
Achievement / Awards:
He has already bagged numerous prizes in different music competitions
which include Rajya Sangeet Academy State Level competitions,
All Bengal Music Competiotion arranged by Anil Bagchi Smriti
Samsad in 1997, Times FM Music Competition (Surer Akakshe
Hindustan Biscuit), Gaan Sudhu Gaan of DD Bangla in 2001.
Apart from those mentioned above, he was one of the megasemifinalists
of Zee TV Sa Re Ga Ma (Hindi) in 2001.
He is also a artiste of Aakashvani (Bhajan,
Najrulgeeti, Bangla Adhunik Gaan) and a frequent
performer of Doordarshan, Tara Music, Aakash Bangla,
Zee TV, Zee Bangla, ETV etc. He is also an enlisted
Rabindra Sangeet artiste of Bangla Sangeet
Mela. He has been upgraded to 'A' Grade in "Akashbani". In the year 2007-2008 he is one of the groomers of GMI (Gane Moor Indradhonu) of ETV Bangla.
He has performed in many musical concerts all over India,
notable amongst which is SPICMACAY programme
at IIT Kharagpur. Moreover he was the anchor of the popular
TV serial - UTTARDHWANIR CHHANDE, a Musical
competition for North Bengal TV networks in 2005, Lyrics,
Music, Music arrangement of the title song of VOTE
RANGE El BANGE - a W.B. Govt. production (telecast
by 24 Ghanta) was done by him as well as sung by him in 2006.
Though in concerts, he sings Khyals, Thumris of Indian Classical
origins with Old Melodies, but Kaushik's speciality is that
he is everready to sing his own compositions. Recently Srikanta
expressed his interest in singing Kaushik's compositions.
In 1998 his first album Chiradin Chirakal
- a bouquet of his own composition of Bengali songs was published.
Recently Sagarika Music Company released his second album
Bhorer Barota, which comprises a number of
beautiful Bengali songs composed by him. Lyrics of some of
them are also his own creation. An album titled Gaane
Gaane Bhalobeshe - a Rohan's Creation's production,
sung by the six finalists of Uttardhwanir Chhande Music Competition
as well as Kaushik himself is about to release shortly. Lyrics,
Music and Music arrangements of this album is also his another
creation.
Presently he is not only one of the most eligible faculties
of Shrutinandan, the ace music institute
of international repute as well as the dream creation of Pandit
Ajay Chaktraborty but some of his compositions are a few of
the musts in the syllabus here.
He is amongst the eminent judges panel of Young
Talent Search Contest in Indian Classical Vocal Music organized
by Dover Lane Music Conference committee
during the years in December 2006 - 2008..
