Her affinity
with cultural world dates way back to her day of early childhood.
An instinctive fondness for performing arts prompted her
to recite, act, sing and dance from her school days which
she spent outside Bengal. Her father Sri Brajagopal Bhattacharji
initially taught her to recite Tagore's poems.
She
has been traversing the realm of recitation in Kolkata for
more than two decades and has recited at Rabindra Sadan,
Bangla Academy, Jibananda Savagriha and in innumerable open-air
programmes in and around Kolkata. She recites poems of Tagore
as well as poems of the modern poets.
For
more than a decade, she has been reciting in the programme
held by the State Govt. on the occasion of Tagore's birth-anniversary.
She has performed in State Youth Festivals and in various
State Govt. programmes.

She
has been a compere in almost all the stages in Kolkata including
Netaji Indoor Stadium, Rabindra Sadan, Bangala Academy etc.
She had been the compere in English for "Calcutta Choir"
for a long time, and has represented West Bengal in various
states. She compered in State Programmes like Reception
of Gen, Giap, President of Vietnam, National Conference
of the Parliamentarians and such other programmes.
She
is also well known in the theatre world as a powerful actress
and has acted in all the theatre halls of the city. She
has been attached to the theatre group "Aneek"
for almost two decades and prior to that acted with the
theatre group "Chetana" for a brief period. Her
ability to sing and recite spontaneously adds a different
dimension to her acting. Her ability to sing and act has
rendered a uniqueness to her recitation.
Her
career of performing arts has taken her to places like Delhi,
Bombay, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhubneswar, Cuttack, Kanpur,
Kerala, Tripura, Assam and Bangla Desh (Dacca, Tangail,
Jessore & Chittagong).
She
has had her training in Tagore's songs from Suchitra Mitra,
Amal Nag and Maya Sen. In 1997 she stood first in Rabindra
Sangeet in the final exams of Rabitirtha, the institute
headed by the legendary singer, Smt. Suchitra Mitra.
One
can listen to her recitation in the cassettes "Jege
Achhi" & "Pran Theke Prane" by Sun Music
& Ganadarpan respectively. Her audio cassette of Rabindra
Sangeet "KEBALI SWAPAN KORECHHI BAPAN" from Music
2000 and "RAKTIM MARICHIKA" from Raga have received
critics' acclaim. She is now a registered singer of Eastern
Zonal Cultural Centre, Dept. of Culture, Govt. Of India.
The
originality of her style and her commitment towards society
have always been the integral part of her performances.
