Ranjan
Ghosh, born in a musical family, Calcutta, India, makes
a very rare combination, having academic qualifications,
as well as proficiency in Performances and Teaching, both
in Indian Classical Music and Western Classical Music on
Violin, bridging these widely different forms of music.
Ranjan
started musical training on violin under his father Rabin
Ghosh, a legendary violinist of this century and disciple
of Baba Alauddin Khan Sahib. Violin maestro Rabin Ghosh’s
vast and extensive experience in ‘Seni Maihar Gharana’
and in genuine control on a fifth string violin, introduced
by himself for the first time in Indian classical music,
have helped Ranjan to blend the best of ‘Seni Mihar
Gharana’ in his music in contrast to sticking to unique
style of violin playing featuring ‘Ati Vilambit Style’,
(very slow movement applicable to ‘Alap’ and
‘Vilambit’ Gat).
Ranjan also received training in western classical music on
violin from his father Mr. Rabin Ghosh and from Mr. Mihir
Gupta. As a result, Ranjan represents a unique style of rendering
Indian Classical Music through this western instrument –
violin.
An
Master of Arts in Indian classical music on violin from Rabindra
Bharati University, Kolkata, Ranjan is also an Associate Violin
(ATCL Violin) from Trinity college of Music, London.
At
present Ranjan is associated as ‘Teacher of violin’
in Calcutta School of Music and in Calcutta Centre for communication
and creativity, Kolkata. Ranjan is empanelled as ‘External
Examiner’ of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
Ranjan
enjoyed “National Scholarship” in Indian (Hindustani)
Classical Music, on violin, form 1984 to 1990, and from 1998
to 2000 by the Department of Culture, Government of India.
He
was awarded by the Government of West Bengal, for standing
first in music competition of West Bengal State Akademi of
Dance, Drama Music and Visual-Arts in 1997. Ranjan also awarded
for participation in workshop in ‘Music Education’
conducted by Guildhall School of Music, UK, Calcutta. Ranjan
awarded medal and challenge cups in ATCL violin by Trinity
College of Music, London. Apart from delivers lecture-demonstration
on music, Ranjan conducted ‘workshop on music’
organized by Calcutta School of Music, Kolkata. Ranjan worked
