Most of the families in the rural areas, where we are working, were characterized by health unconsciousness and health related misconception. As a result, they were suffering from malnutrition, malaria, measles, respiratory infection and water borne diseases. Infant Mortality, Child Mortality and Maternal Mortality rates were also high. To tackle the situation, Barasat Anweshan has taken a number of programs in these areas:
Awareness Programs for Proper Health Care
Barasat Anweshan arranges awareness camps on health care during Pre-Natal and Post-Natal Period in a regular basis. We educate the pregnant mothers why they have to be health conscious to give birth to a healthy baby. Our continuous sittings with the villagers now have made it a practice of the pregnant women in the village towards compulsory visit to Sub Centers and register their names there.
We also organize awareness programs, at a regular basis, on the necessity of institutional delivery of the baby, breast feeding of the infants, total immunization of the children, adverse effect of Genetically Modified (GM) food etc.
Frequent awareness meetings are now being arranged on different issues like breast cancer, HIV/ AIDS, Malaria, Kalajar, infectious and water-borne diseases.
Health Services
Along with awareness program, we organize a number of health camps. We arrange "Blood Donation Camps" in the village and peri-urban areas, where doctors from District level attend. Meetings are also arranged, and the experts deliver their dialogues regarding the importance of blood donation.
Free Medical Camps are organized by Barasat Anweshan regularly. There medical check-up of the villagers are done by expert and specialist doctors. Medicines are distributed at free of cost. Beside these, doctors speak in public regarding the importance of regular health check-up for leading a sound life.
Barasat Anweshan also organizes Eye Testing Camps by Eye specialists in a regular basis. Eye examination of the village people are done and the spectacles are distributed free of cost. Necessary medicines are also distributed free.
We also arranged for vaccination, antibiotics, arrangement against mosquito bites, as and when necessary. |
