Agriculture

We have formed few Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) by which recovery of loan is ensured 100%. We realized the necessity of formation of "Farmers' Club" also in the villages. Members of the club are the landless poor farmers. The members of the clubs are well active and arrange regular meetings. Various training program are conducted by Barasat Anweshan to educate the farmers on the latest scientific development of agriculture. Subjects are Agriculture, Pisciculture, Dairy, Goattery, Horticulture, Floriculture, etc.

Awareness camps are also arranged regularly on the proper use of organic manure and avoid using the chemical for better yield. Realizing that oral dialogue is not sufficient to bring faith against the present practice, Barasat Anweshan started using organic manure to its own fields at Harpara as demonstration plots and showed the better result instantly. This resulted excellently well and at present a good numbers of cultivators in surrounding area of Barasat, are now experimentally digging pit for producing vermi-composed and demonstrating in a small area of land. We are also encouraging the farmers to use indigenous variety of traditional seed instead of "high yielding" seeds being supplied by the corporate world.

We have our own cultivable land where we produce the same for the "Home" of vulnerable and homeless students for their consumption.

Pisciculture

Pisciculture in West Bengal has a profitable market. Within the Jurisdiction of Barasat Anweshan, there are a number of ponds in these villages. But ignorance of scientific process of culture, the production of fishes is not that much profitable earlier. After the intervention of Barasat Anweshan, the farmers are being trained by the experts. Regular meetings are held wherein information regarding latest development is conveyed to the farmers. Beside this, Barasat Anweshan has dug its own pond in the outer area of its orphanage at Harpara. There the cultivators are practically trained in this subject.
