Among the six Odissi dances mention should be made of Baishali Kolay, a disciple of Smt. Aloka Kanungo, who emulated the best of her teacher with bhava and postures. Her competent executions of Mahana pallavi and the abhinaya to the song Tolagi gopa danda, raised a few eyebrows. Her assets basically is a pair of extremely expressive eyes.

Baishali is young upcoming danseuse with a supple figure appropriate for Odissi performance. She has taiyyari as well as abhinaya acumen. She is good in mimetic acting in bringing out the rasa of the sahitya.

Among the dancers Baishali Kolay, the prima donna of the troupe was bewitching. Her expressive face and eloquent eyes mirrored different moods so eloquently that she managed to create immediate empathy with the audience.

Baishali Kolay, a more senior student was very impressive both in competition based on Jaydeva’s Sritakamala and the Dasavatar. Aloka Kanungo has drilled the grammar of the dance style into her student.

The abhinaya to the lyric sritakamala by Baishali Kolay, one of the senior student og Smt. Aloka Kanungo was reasonably enjoyable.
