Educational & Training Courses
The School offers a broad spectrum of training, catering for the need of every type of student. Those desiring Diplomas in music can take the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or The Trinity College, London. On the other hand of the spectrum, the occasional player of keyboard, a jazz aficionado, a modern creative dancer or as aspiring thespian can be trained his or her pace. Youngsters from the age of 5 can begin their musical initiation in rhythm at the Junior Music Classes. The School has recently started a 6 month course, "Skillful Music Recording" which will be of great use to all computer-oriented musicians.

The Indian Music Section was inaugurated by Pandit Ravi Shankar. It regularly stages dance expositions, as well as vocal and instrumental recitals, featuring eminent artistes. Vocalists are trained in ragas, geet and Gazal to Thumri and Kheyal. Indian dance instructions encompass all the three major disciplines of Odisi, Bharatnatyam and Kathak. There is even a special set of dance classes for the very young in the age group of 3½ to 6 years. Along with teaching, the school has arranged many interesting cultural events e.g, a Seminar on Drupad & Thumri sponsored by the Sangeet Natak Academy, workshop and seminar on the great Maestro Ustad Allauddin Khan sponsored by the Eastern Cultural Centre, Dance workshops by the celebrated Yamini Krishnamurthy, Kathak exponent Chitresh Das. Recently, a series of Concerts sponsored by ITC Sangeet Research Academy, featuring their most promising young artistes have also been brought into being. The well-known sitarist Mrs. Jaya Biswas was in charge of this faculty from the time of its inauguration. After her retirement, Mrs. Dalia Rahut, the well known ITC SRA trained vocalist became Head of the Indian Section.

When renowned local artistes, as well as from foreign countries, visit the School for concert performances, master classes are arranged both for the Western and Indian Sections in music, dance and jazz instrumentals.

Affiliations/Associations/Recognitions
In Western Music, the School prepares for the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, UK and The Trinity College, London.

In Indian Music, the School was accredited and affiliated to the prestigious Rabindra Bharati University of Kolkata for preparing students for their various examinations. (This has been discontinued since mid 2005)

Library
The School has a library containing a sizeable collection of books on music, and examination and practice music sheets (mainly piano and violin) for students. It also has complete sheets of music or symphonies, chorals, chamber orchestra and so on for the performers. In the reference section, it has a collection of biographies of musicians, history of music, forms in music, encyclopedia, dictionaries, and a collection of magazine and journals in music. In the audio-visual section, it has musicals cassettes, CDs, VCR tapes, VCDs and DVDs. The library is for use by the faculty and the students and the catalogue is computerized.

The School admits the public to its various functions under various categories of supporters. These categories, their corresponding facilities and the fees currently charged under each type of are as under:

Corporate Donors : A donation of Rs.10,000 per annum is a small price for cards which admit ten of your employees to all concerts held by the Calcutta School of Music, and provide a little financial support for our activities. You also receive our quarterly Newsletter.

Sustaining Donors : These are major benefactors of the School, donating Rs. 5,000 each year. These members receive notices of all our functions as well as our Quarterly Newsletter.

Millennium Donors & Concert Donors : Are invited to all concerts arranged by the School at all venues, including the Winter and Monsoon concert series. They are also entitled to attend the Friday evening programmes of “Listeners’ Club”, “Jazz Listeners’ Forum” and “Musical Theatre”. They also receive our Quarterly newsletter. The annual donation for a Millennium Donor is Rs.1,500 for a couple and Rs.1,000 for a single member. The annual donation for Concert Donors are Rs 750 for a couple and Rs.500 for individuals.

Listeners’ Club Donors : Are entitled to attend the audio and lecture session on Western Classical music on the first Friday of the month. The charges are Rs. 450 for a couple and Rs. 300 for a single member.

Jazz Listener’s Forum Donors : Are entitled to attend the audio and the Video sessions on jazz music on the third Friday of the month. The charges are Rs. 450 for a couple and Rs. 300 for a single member.

Musical Theatre Donors : Are entitled to attend the Video sessions on operas and musical movies on the fourth Friday of the month. The charges are Rs. 450 for a couple and Rs. 300 for a single member.

Student Donors : Any student of any age and from any institution, proving identity by the institution fee book can be a student donor and attend any concert or Friday evening programme of the School. They also receive our Newsletter. The comprehensive charges are Rs.150 per student.

Usage of Sandré Hall
Sandré Hall is the hall for performance of the School. The hall was fully air conditioned, acoustically refurbished and noise-proofed and fitted with modern stage lighting through a grant from the Dorabji Tata Trust. It can accommodate 120 listeners in comfort. The hall, when unoccupied, is given out for use to the members of public and other organizations for meetings, musical functions etc. A charge is normally made by the School to recover the costs incurred.

Concerts
Informal concerts are given by students to expose them to performing in public. The Annual Concert is a very special occasion of the School when students compete for prizes. The Annual Christmas Concert includes both vocals and instrumentals. The other important function is the World Music Day on 21st June. Jazz concerts have also been big draw at the School with interactive audiences. The School organizes the Annual Inter-School Music Quiz (in some prominent school) and the Young Talent Contest usually at the ITC Sonar Bangla Hotel. Both these have been very important vehicles for identifying young musical talent.

Besides the above, there are eight Winter Concerts from October to March as well as six Special Concerts. Reputed Indian as well as, touring maestros from all over the world perform and hold master classes at that time. From June to September, the School remains busy with the Monsoon Concerts when the local and budding talents get a platform. These include soloists, ensembles and orchestras. All these add up to some twenty four concerts a year apart from all the other activities. In each month for at least on three Friday evenings, special audio visual programmes on classical music, opera, musical cinemas and jazz performances are conducted. (This has been elaborated in a a special chapter following).
