About Her
 

Baisali's formal dance training began at the age of 4 in four forms of Indian Classical Dances. She specialized in Manipuri initially under Khelendra Mukherjee and then under Priti Patel and Dr. Sruti Banerjee. In Manipur, Baisali has learnt under Padmasree Ojha Th. Babu Singh.She has also learnt Thang-ta (Martial Art of Manipur) under Rohini Chandra and Henry Meitei.

Baisali received National Scholarshipin 1994 and Junior Fellowship for Research Work in Manipuri Dance in 2000, both awarded by Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India. She is an A-grade artist of Doordarshan Kendra, empanelled with ICCR and External Examiner of Rabindra Bharati University.

Along with dance Baisali maintained her academics. She completedMaster Degree in English Literature from Calcutta University.

Her dance institutionCHALORMI in Kolkata is dedicated in promotion and propagation of Manipuri Dance in all possible ways. She teaches young students, encourages them to perform frequently, conducts workshops and lecture -demonstrations herself and invites renowned gurus of different dance forms to enlighten her disciples through workshops and lecture -demonstrations.

As a solo artiste and with her group CHALORMI, Baisali has performed extensively in India like Konark Dance and Music Festival, Doverlane Music Conference, Uday Shankar Nrityotsav, National Programme of Dance for Doordarshan Kendra, Swarna Ntiya Pratibha org. by Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi and many more.

Internationally, Baisali performed in Days of Indian Culture in Russia, International Dance Festival in Poland, Hanover Expo in Germany, Dance Festivals in Dhaka and Nepal.

  1. Received training in all four aspects of Classical Manipuri Dance style i.e. Lai-Haraoba, Thangta, Sankirtana and Rasleela under Smt. Priti Patel at Anjika Centre for Manipuri Dance and Movement Therapy.
  2. Received training in Thangta, the traditional Martial Art form of Manipur at Anjika, under Sri N. Rohini Chandra and Sri P. Henry Meitei.
