History of Style

Origin of the school goes back to Choki Motobu, a disciple of Shito–Ryu styles founder Kenwa Mabuni. Motobu was born in Okinawa, 1871. He possessed a very strong character and had a life fully spent with challenges. Motobu Zaru (Monkey Motobu) nickname was given to this fast fighter who devoted himself to be the strongest man in the Okinawa Island. Educated by the founder of Shito Ryu, Kenwa Mabuni, Motobu moved to Osaka in 1921 and while he kept on training with Kenwa Mabuni, taught many students who were to play very important roles on Karate history. Kosi Kuniba, the founder of Seishinkan, one of the most famous dojo of Osaka since 1935, was a disciple of Choki Motobu.

Choki Motobu passed away in Naha, 02.09.1944 and he was given the “First Soke of Motobu-Ha Shito Ryu” title. After his death, Kosei Kuniba became the second Soke of Motobu-Ha Shito Ryu and he hosted Kenwa Mabuni many times in his renowned dojo.

In 1959, Kosei Kuniba passed away. Veterans Council, agreed on making Shogo Kuniba the new Soke to his father’s style. He was 29 years old at that time. Since he was too young, Teruo Hayashi supported and patronized him. Meanwhile, Shogo Kuniba progressed not only in Karate, buy also in Judo, Iai- Do and Kendo. In 1968, he became Soke Kaicho. In 1983, he moved to USA and spread his style also in USA beside Japan. He founded a Kobudo style which he named as Goshin Budo in this country.

After his death at the age of 52 when he was 9th Dan, Japanese Karate Federation gave him posthumous 10th Dan as a gesture to his memory.

Shogo Kuniba, had presented a Soke candidate before his death. When he died, Veterans Council chose Kunio Tatsuno Sensei as new Soke as required by this recommendation. Japanese Karate Federation gave 10th Dan to Tatsuno Sensei who was 9th Dan at that times and chosen 4th Soke.

Shogo Kuniba’s sons assisted Tatsuno Sensei. Every year in August, World Shito Ryu Championship was made in Osaka. Teruo Hayashi was Technical Adviser and Grand Shihan Minamide was Technical Director of Seishinkai. Kozo Kuniba, Shogo Kuniba’s elder son, was assigned to International President duty.

In 1st May 1999, Soke Tatsuno passed away in an accident. Veterans Council announced Sadotomo Harada as the 5th Soke Kaicho of Shito Ryu Seishinkai Karate Do Ren Mei. Grand Shihan Minamide is still the Technical Director of the style

About Seishinkai Indian Karate-Do & Kick Boxing Institute

SIKKI started its journey on 5th September’1998 through a small Karate demonstration with only three students in hand. It passed many hurdles, overcome several obstacles within these years. We organized many of the Events like – Belt Grading, Seminars, International Training Camps, Anti-Drug Rally & various Tournaments. It’s because of the will and help of our well-wishers that we have been able to experience such events beautifully and successfully. We are thankful to you for such a huge success of ours. It was all possible because of your support, and the support from many renowned persons. They have always been beside us in our even and odd days and brought this Organization towards success. From the handful of 3 students this institute reached not 30, not even 300 but its more than 4000.
