ANJANA BANERJI is a bright star  in the galaxy of Bharatnatyam. Her emergence as a front-rank exponent of this most popular  classical dance style of India is .extremely significant. Her home town, Calcutta, is not a Centre for Bharatnatyam, although it is culturally the most advanced  city in India. Anjana is the only Bengali  today to have won recognition all over the country as  an eminent danseuse in this style. 
                   She studied this art with Guru K.N. Dakshinamoorthy Pillai,  who comes from a distinguished family  of dancers, dance teachers and musicians. His elder brother, the late Dandayuthapani Pillai, is one of the  greatest composers and conductors of  the 20th century in this field. Guru Dakshinamoorthy is today the ablest teacher of the liandayuthapani  Pillai  School. 
                Late, .still,  she obtained training in Madras from the fame K.P. Kittappa  Pillai of the Panjjnallur School. In recent months, Anjana  hac the opportunity of working with Sh: imati Saraswati, a distinguished  dancer and choreographer of Madras, Director of Ramana Sudas Natyalaya and MBK Trust. 
                Anjana has recently worked as the heroine of  a Bengali film 'CHHANDANEER' based on the  struggle of a Bengali girl to learn  Bharatnatyam. This film has been directed by Shri Utpalendu Chakraborty, who is internationally renowned. CHHANDANEER was selected for the 1NIDAN PANORAMA,   which is  a   hallmark of excellence. 
                 Anjana received All India  Critic's Award in 1987 and was awarded 'NRITASHREE' title by
                Kartik Academy  of Arts  in  India.                                                             
                Anjana participated in the sanskritik Festival of India in UK in 1985; In Tagore's 125th Birth Centenary Celebration in UK in 1986; Represented India in e,Oth Indian  Independence Day Celebration in  G.D.R. Berlin in 1987 anJ Ir.  Jawaharlal   Nehru   Centenary    Celebration   in   UK   in   1989. 
                Anjana has  received rave reviews not only in the Indian Press but also in many cities of World. She is inded a bright top star in the galaxy of Bharatnatyam.
