About Meghamita Mitra:

Meghamita Mitra, a versatile kathak Performer, started her career at the early age of three, under the guidance and training of Smt. Susmita Mishra (The Guruma - the renowned exponent of Jaipur Gharana). Till date she continues to perform under her guidance.

Meghamita is a graduate in B. Sc from Calcutta University, she has completed her Master's Degree from Rabindra Bharati University. She mastered her unique style of Kathak through various dance performance across the country. Moreover, she is also an expertise in other dance forms, namely Rabindranritya, Folk and creative dance. She has also got distinctions in the field of Kathak and Rabindra Nritya.

Today Meghamita has started keeping her audience spell bound with her brilliant and flawless solo Kathak recital and performances, as a result of an extraordinary talent by which she is highly gifted. After long years of intensive training and sheer dedication towards the art form of Kathak. She has developed complete command over the pure dance and abhinaya.
She owes her capability in performing all styles of Kathak, the graceful " Chakkers", different foot work with varieties, which are characteristics of Jaipur Gharana, as well as sophisticated " Abhinaya and Bhaba" peculiar to " Lucknow Gharana". She has widely performed various Rabindrik Dance Drama Chandalika, Chitrangada, Taser desh, Shyama, Bhanu Singher Padabali, Shapmochan, etc across India. Frequent Choreographic production Ritu Ranga , Chandalika, Swadesh, Mohishasur mardini, Fusion, Kathak Ballet by her own troupe are highly praised.

Apart from her performances in the field of dance she is also an expertise in painting and crafts.

  4. Stood second position in all India Dance competition organized by Prayag Sangeet Samity (Allahabad) 1985 and received Award from the hands of Central Minister.
  5. Stood third position in “Nehru Talent Search Award" Kathak Dance organized by Nehru Children Museum and received award from the hands of Mr. Prasanta Sur (Education Minister & Mayor of WEST BENGAL GOVT).
  6. Participated in Kathak Seminar in presence of Pdt. Birju Maharaj, Dr. Kapila Vatsayana, Dr. Sunil Kothari, Advocate Shamanand Jalan etc in the year at 1999.
  7. Examiner of RABINDRA BHARATI UNIVERSITY.
  8. Judge of BANGIYA SANGEET PARISAD, NEHRU CHILDREN'S MUSEUM and she is invited as an expert Judge in various dance competition all over WEST BENGAL.

On behalf of Rabindra Bharati University ( West Bengal) she performed in "Kathak Kendra" the National Institute of Kathak Dance (New Delhi, Govt of India ) in "Kathak Pratibha festival" in the year 1999. Reports on appreciation of her performance were published in many daily newspapers all over the country.
  2. Participated and highly appreciated in Kathak Dance, organized by Ministry of Culture, youth Affairs and sports (The Govt of India) in the year of 1999.

  4. Performed on behalf of Eastern Zonal cultural centre and Anamika Kalasangam in the year of 2004, 2006.
