Professor Shyamadas Bhattacharyya is a renowned and colourful Personality of Shilong. Utmost love to nation and humanity is the main principle of this educationist. He was attached with North – eastern Hilly Universities and Secondary and higher Secondary School Council. He has the natural quality in the various fields of history, Literature and culture. He is the founder – member of the North – East Indian History organization. He is permanent member of Bangio Sahitya Parished (Shilong branch).

He was the Vice President of shilong Film Society, President of Drama Federation and Marseist Centre, Secretary of Arobindo Library and he was the regular speaker and composer of Shilong Radio Centre.
One of his best contribution of life, he was the founder of Nongtalang college for remote hilly students of the Jayantia Hill.

He was honoured as the “Bharat Jyoti”, the prestigious award from Delhi Govt. on 2001 for his multi-field contributions and rememberable roles for the State of Meghalaya. In his long staying tenure in the beautiful hill station of shilong, taking the deep pain for the distress and humilation of his own Community in shilong, Prof. Shamadas Bhattacharya has written the world wide famous book on shilong, named “Shilonger Bangal” during his sick-ness.
This is a highly popular book. It’s appreciable research work. This book has been included the historic descriptions of staying, traveling and the activities in shilong of the many great personalities of Bengal.
