A versatile genius and a multifaceted personality, Dr. Sudhir Bera, Ex-MLA, had an exceptionally brilliant academic career. An illustrious alumni of Calcutta Presidency College and a double MA, LLB and D. Lit, Dr. Bera always secured 100% marks in his Mathematics and 97% and above in Sanskrit in all examinations.

Born on 13th August, 1929 in a freedom fighter traditional congress family of Midnapore, he started his career in the West Bengal Civil Service, then resigned voluntarily, started law practicing. He was an outstanding advocate of Supreme Court and Calcutta High Court and was counsel of Indira Gandhi in the P.M. Poll Appeal case in the Supreme Court 1975.

Dr. Bera was twice elected member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Daspur of Midnapur. He was Justice of the Peace.

In his early schooldays, he joined freedom movement under the famous leadership of Bipin Behari Ganguly and Bhupati Majumdar. He was secretary of the undivided Bengal Provincial Students Congress. He is now the Vice-President of "All India Freedom Fighters' Samity" founded by Late Raja Mahendra Pratap and also President of its West Bengal Branch and is Secretary-cum- Trustee of National Martyr's Memorial Trust with office at Bhubaneswar.
