Art of Mime

Mime is basically designed for physical gesture and posture. Mime, word sometimes used for an actor (Latin Mimes), mime is communication and conveyed only by gesture, a stylized form of acting is a meaningful physical expression in which the performer expresses his ideas, emotions, moods, concepts only through his body without speech. The actor portrays characters - human or animals, living and non-living things, depicts events using body, face, hands in universally understandable actions. The art of mime as painting on a blank canvas. Without the need for costume, props or scenery. Mime actor uses are imaginary, his body shape and expression alone tell the story.

Mime is one of the oldest forms of Theatrical Art. It is popular in Greece and Rome, the traditions of mime again achieved popularity with 16th century commedia dell' art. In recent times such mime artists as Jean-Louis Barrault, Etienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau have brought respect and recognition to this challenging art form and to the attention of audiences all over the world.

Mr. Kamal Naskar, in the life of mime showmanship has been started in the: year 1981 with hearty blessing of guru Sri Jogesh Dutta. during the last 25 years he made much effort for the preparation of 20th creative venture of mime nights. Each and every mime nights are full of different subjects and new creative thoughts.

Mr. Kamal Naskar performed his mime shows in various states of India like: New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Allahabad. Ujjain, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Bangalore, Ranchi, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, West Bengal etc. and also abroad like Switzerland, Bangladesh. He completed his research work with the help of government of India. He also invented the "Indian style of mime" named as 'Epic Night". He also made a mime training film know n as "Mime Step By Step". He is honorary rector or director of Modern Mime Centre, Kolkata, West Bengal which is established in 1995 as a mime training institution.
