Mrinal Bandyopadhyay – Music Director, Composer, Lyricist and Vocal  Artiste – a name synonymous with melodious music – a well known name in the realm of Music / Film industry of West Bengal / India, and to hundreds and thousands of music lovers of  the country and abroad.

Born with music in Blood, from the early boyhood days he used to watch his father in “rihaz” of hindusthani classical music or in imparting training to the learners, and cherished an earnest desire to have an entry to the kingdom of music. But nobody indulged in the fulfillment of this desire of this boy. In his father’s absence he used to play rhythm on tabla. As the boy grew up, a passion for music urged him to create beautiful and thought - provoking lyrics on one hand, and composing lilting tunes for them on the other. In his boyhood days he was very much fond of the melodious singing style of late Satinath Mukherjee and tried to follow his style in his own voice. In several public performances in West Bengal, in Agartala, in Bilaspur and many other places, this young artiste was invited along with other renowned senior artists for recital in his melodious voice. He used to charm the audience with his own composition both lyrics and tune. At the same time the established and reputed artistes of that time loved to sing and went on singing his compositions – Adhunic Bhajan and Ragpradhan sung by Pratima Banerjee, Tarun Banerjee, Nirmala Misra, Arati Mukherjee, Madhuri Chatterjee, Pintu Bhattacharya, Banasree Sengupta and as on, devotional songs by Dhananjoy Bhattacharya and Pannalal  Bhattacharya etc.
From 1964 onwards his own voice continued to be broadcast through Akasbani and in 1966 he got through the process to become an approved lyricist of  Akasbani.

But his creative talent did not spare him to be complacent with this. He began to visualize the extra-ordinarily powerful music composer Sri S.D. Burman as his role model. There began his journey of melody making – blending classical Indian Music with folk tunes, some times fusioning Indian folk music with its western counterpart and various other research and experimental works. In this way the innumerable mind blowing songs for film and basic albums were given birth-to, which contributed to making music/film industry of Bengal richer. The recently published basic albums (both  Audio & Video)  in his own voice, own  Bold Lyrics on contemporary thoughts and befitting tunes named “Jeeban Niye Khala -  Kano, Kano?” is another awesome contribution of Mrinal Bandyopadhyay.
