Graduated with Honours in Political Science in 1969, Apurba has obtained Masters degree in Political Science in 1971 and English Literature in 1979 from University of Calcutta. He has also earned a high degree of reputation as an efficient Bank Manager. After serving 30 glorious years in a leading Nationalised Bank he took voluntary retirement in 2001 to devote wholeheartedly for his literary creations.

He has so far authored 46 books covering different areas of literature, out of which 28 are on Rhymes. Though his poems and rhymes are recited by all eminent elocutionists, Apurba himself has earned a distinction in reciting his own poems with lots of ease and execellence. Some of his creations are recorded in audio-album by notable reciters as well as by himself. An ardent cricket-lover, Apurba has received many literary awards including “Avijnan Chhara Puroskar” conferred by Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi, the citadel of Bengal’s literary and cultural activities. He is associated with several literary organizations in various capacities.

As a poet he has visited USA, Bangladesh and eight countries in Europe, namely Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and Russia. He was invited as a poet, specially for presenting his rhymes, in Banga Mela, Chicago, USA. in 2005.

He has visited Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra (Australia) in June-July 2010 on being invited by Bangla Sahitya Sansad, Melbourne, as a guest poet in Bangla Shishu-Kishore Sahityer Asor.

He is closely associated for long with many notable literary and cultural organizations, such as Shishu Kishore Akademi, Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi, Shishu Sahitya Parishad, Sukumar Sahitya Samabay Ltd (Magazine-‘Sandesh’), International Bengali Poetry festival, Bishwa Bangla Kabita Utsab, Nikhil Bharat Shishu Sahitya Sanmelan, Editorial Board of ‘Kabisammelan’ Patrika’ and many others .

His family :

Son of late Nanilal and late Latika Dutta, Apurba’s main source of inspiration behind his literary aptitude flowed from his mother. In later years the flow was conjoined by his life-partner, following his marriage in 1975 with Kaberi (Das), who unarguably possesses an immense love for literature and a strong personality embellished with a commendable sense of judgement. Their only child Aveek and his wife, Dola are presently pursuing PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science respectively at The University Of Colorado, USA.
