Remarks on Dr. Dipak Chandra by various literary critics :

DR. HIRANMOY BANDYOPADHAYAY
Ex-vice Chancellor, Robindra Bharati, Calcutta

The Mahavharata is acknowledged as a historical document and the lord Krishna is adjudged to be one among the eminent figures. So, he is styled God incarnate. Mr. Chandra has penned this novel to lead us deep into the heart and intellect of this historical superman. However, Dr. Chandra's techniques and style are different. He has confined himself to the discussion and interpretation of the diplomatic role of Sri Krishna to establish the rule of religion (Dharma Rajya) in India. In the second place, he has given out his own points of view within the set pattern of a novel. So, from this angle, it can be treated as a historical novel. In perfect conformity with these historical aspects, the super-natural phenomena have been either rejected consciously or explained logically. So, quite naturally, the Geeta episode has been excluded and a new logical explanation of the abortive attempt to undress Draupadi before the royal court has been put forth. Even, the Jayadratha episode has undergone significant changes. All these together account for the diversified novelty of the book, which by itself, is the main attraction of it. His task of texturising in a novel the vast span of activities of the incarnate equals only to an adventure. Needless to mention, the literary merit of the novel makes it a pride-possession of the regular reader (Translated from Bengali).

PROFESSOR JAGADISH BHATTACHARYA

“You are gifted in creating mythological novels. Your imagination has penetrated into the Mahabharata stories. When one does something not done by anyone before, he must be called talented. Your talent is now an undeniable fact... you have touched the soul of the Indian epic through the language of a novelist” (Translated from Bengali)

PROFESSOR DR. RAMDULAL BOSU, Critic

You h created a new branch of literature in Bengali, enric and expanded it, too. Your writings are rich not or plot construction but also in philosophical outlook... works will cross the barries of time." (Translated from Bengali).

DR. SISIR KUMAR DAS
Head of the Department of Bengali, Delhi University.

DR. SUMITA CHAKRAVORTY

The writer has tried to raise the people of the mythological age; he pursues men one after another, one character after another illuminating the mind of one from all direction writer’s achievement … the mythological characters of foreign science fiction are beyond reach.
The speciality of Dipak Chandra lies in his effort to impart reliability, and undeniably he has achieved success. (Theory of creation in Mahabishwe Madhukaitav, origin of the Ganges in Galpe Galpe Ganga, roboticsn in Kumbhakarner Pratyabartan). While reading, we cannot but think that we never considered these in the light. The scientific truth hidden in the apparent miracles or super-miracles is revealed in Dipak Chandra’s writingss. He endeavour to understand an individual by placing him in society,in family and even in solitude. He even rebuilds a mythological individual by realising and considering the feelings and thoughts in his conscious and subconscious levels, the absorption in all that is personal and his solitary surroundings….
He has tried to reconstruct and feel the myth-characters with reality, psychological insight, moral outlook and life-view of the present civilisation we live in. The shining achievement of Dipak Chandra lies herein, He has made efforts to remould the substance of mythological matters in his own way everywhere though not all.
The mythological characters are not the people of past ages to him seem to belong to modern times. And even mythology is not the mythology; as if it were of the present time. Mythological panorama seen to be the tapestory of present life. His writing has this feature - in his outlook mythological man and present - time man has little difference.

DR. BARID BARAN CHAKRAVORTY

Dipak Chandra has achieved this distinction that he has revealed the deceptive, vicious, despotic politicians of this day in the mirror of Durjodhan, Kansa, Jarasandh and  not only this, the egotistic politicians of to-day have been marked off in the character of Pitamaha Vishma, Basudev Krishna by the revelation of their actual nature.

PROF. TARUN SANYAL
(Poet & Critics)

Dipak Chandra is the living protest against the culpable tendency to the ascribe communal and fundamentalist form and features to the epic characters of our country. He is opposed to this fundamentalism. He can be said to have nourished freedom from communalism, democratic orientation and humanism in the Bengali life. Debates and discussions can be held on his writings. The reading public remain liable to pay appropriate respect to his feelings and  view.

DR. SUKUMAR SEN
Eminent Critic.

Lord Krishna makes his maiden appearance on the vast stage of the Mahabharata on the auspicious occasion of Draupadi's grand marriage ceremony. From then on, as the action rolls on, he charms everybody as a Chorus or the magnanimous personality of a great hero. So, one can hardly doubt the relevance and utility of the subject matter of such a novel as focuses the glowing and multifarious activities of such a dynamic personality. The author is uniquely singular in plot construction and narrative technique. The thinking souls are sure to derive pleasure from the reading of this path-breaking novel on a classical story, as I did. (Translated from Bengali).

DR. KSHETRA GUPTA
Vidyasagar Professor Head of the Department of Bengali Literature, Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta.

The writer has been bold enough to keep the most familar subjects and characters of The Ramayana and the Mahabharata in the lime-light.. .has the honesty and courage to re-interpret such all too familiar characters as Ravana, Rama, Krishna. He has recreated them in their essential divinity or devilishness. Revelation of the characters' traditional divinity or devilishness, preservation of their charisma and reconstruction- at least on these three counts I have not encountered a single instance of incongruity, deliberate mis-interpretation or interpolation.. (Dr.Chandra's) observations and interpretations must be taken for granted... (He has) presented a set of healthy values. He is unstinted in his support for the exploited and neglected. He has torn apart he pseudo- religious mask of the aggressor. This skill in psychological character creation is proof of his intimate relationship with modernity... (He does not) revel in the myth for its own sake.." (Translated from Bengali)

DR. GOPALDAS NAG
Ex-Labour Minister of W.B.

I do not know you personally, nor have any chance of meeting you so far. But some of your recent put of which Sri Krishna Purushottama deserves special mention, have cast a spell upon me. The man behind the godliness of Lord Krishna with a specific philosophy of life based on his sacrifice, patience, devotion to work and constant striving to achieve higher ends etc. has been brought out against the background of the socio-political condition, as much objectively, universally, historically and scientifically as possible. From this point of view, his approach is timely, reasons are thought-provoking. I do not know whether any other person than Bankim Chandra tried his hand in this area. I feel very much attracted to you through being in contact with your writing. To make you known to the younger intellectuals as well as to the common, such ceremonies, I believe, are of great value. (Translated from Bengali)

PRADIPTA SEN

The half of science-fiction is science and at least scientific. Science fiction is based on the acceptance of all science – theories . It has to be placed on reason, however far-fetched it may be. Possibility is the life of science-fiction. Herein lies the writer’s achievement … the mythological characters of foreign science fiction are beyond reach.

DR. ARUN KUMAR MUKHOPADHYA

Many have termed this type of novels of Dipak Chandra as mythological novels . Perhaps this is the new of this kind of mythology-based realistic novels. Dipak Chandra has been guided by sense of humanity, realistic attitude in writing these novels. He has grounded his novels on realism, psychological truth, modern humanism is rebuilding mythological matters. This discussion conforms to this opinion. The writer’s skill in artistry renders Krishna man’s companion, which is his achievement. He has rebuilt the myth-characters. The politics of the Mahabharat has been relevant to the present-age readers by the writer’s skill. He has bridged the plitics of three thousand years ago with that of the present age and helped the readers realise the relevance of the  politics. This shows his achievement as a writer.
