Sraboni is an extremely talented young vocalist and is well versed in the thumri style of music. She sings ghazals and bhajans with equal ease and brilliance. Sraboni attributes her musical talent to her mother and first guru Smt Lakshmi Mukherjee who was a disciple of Shri Ranjit Bose, who in turn was a disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Sraboni started her training in Kolkata and continued the same in Cochin, where she moved with her family.

Sraboni moved to Mumbai in 1987 and completed her Sangeet Visharad in first division from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai under Smt Shashikala Kaikini. Thereafter, she was privileged to learn under Pt Dinkar Kaikini for a year and further continued training under Smt Shampa Pakrashi.

Sraboni did her B.A in Economics from St.Xaviers College and M.A Economics from Bombay University. Thereafter, she joined Sophia College as a lecturer and quickly rose to the post of Lecturer-In-Charge of the Economics Department. However, the turning point in her life came when she got an opportunity to learn music under the thumri legend, Smt Shobha Gurtu. Thereafter, there was no turning back. It was a true calling from the heart and she took a plunge into the world of music and decided to give up her career as a lecturer at Sophia College. 

Soon, Sraboni started featuring in several Youth Festivals including the ones organised by Nehru Centre, Kal Ke Kalakaar Sammelan and Yuva Sangeet Mahotsav held by Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre. She also participated in several TV shows like “Saregama” and “Aadab Arz Hai”.

Sraboni has received the Surmani from Sur Singar Samsad. She is also a “B-High” graded artiste at All India Radio. She has done several recordings for Films Division. She has also lent her voice to several TV commercials like the Nakshatra Diamond Advertisement.

She rendered solo performances at Swami Haridas Sammellan in Mumbai, Kesarbai Kerkar Sangeet Samaroh and Samrat Club in Goa, NCPA, Nehru Centre, Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre and Ustaad Bade Ali Khan Yaadgar Sabha. She has also had the privilege of accompanying her guru Smt Shobha Gurtu on stage on several occasions including the Sawai Gandharv Festival in Pune and ITC Concert at Kolkata.

She has also given vocal accompaniment to several prominent Kathak dancers like Bireshwar Gautam and Prachi Shah across the country and abroad.

Her ghazal performances have won her several accolades. She has been a part of “Khazana – a festival of ghazals” featuring prominent ghazal singers like Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz, Bhupinder & Mitali Singh, Rajendra Mehta and Anup Jalota several times. She has also been a part of “Shab-e-Ghazal” organized by Sur Singar Samsad.

She is currently training under Smt Shubha Joshi, the senior-most disciple of Smt Shobha Gurtu. Sraboni has also been fortunate to have the blessings of Pt Ajoy Chakraborty and has been taking a few lessons from him.
