| Vitiligo is a chronic disorder that causes depigmentation of skin. Skin becomes white. It can be Localized or Generalized. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation die or are unable to function. The cause of Vitiligo is unknown, but research suggests that is may arise from autoimmune, genetic, oxidative stress, neural, or viral causes. Only localized vitiligos which are localized and not increasing in size for at least 3 to 4 years can be treated. Treatment consists of removal of a thin layer of skin of the white areas by knife or Laser and then application of a very thin skin graft. |
