Plastic
Surgeons are specially trained for the treatment of burns.
Burn patients suffer from severe shock and many other complications
which require most methodical treatment in an attempt to save
the life of the patient. It is also necessary to prevent the
deformities which may develop from burn injuries. Skin grafting
in proper time may prevent many deformities and also in critical
cases may save the life of the patient. So it is advisable
that burn patients should invariably be treated by Plastic
Surgeons.
Contracture
over the joints like neck, axilla, elbow, wrist, fingers,
hip, knee, ankle and toes is the most common complication
in burns. Contracture of lips and eyelids are also common.
Treatment involves release of contracture, excision of scars
as much as possible and reconstruction by skin grafting
or skin flap cover as necessary.
