Maria's
Day School (MDS) , Howrah , is an English medium , co-educational Institution
, recognized by the Education Department of the Government of West Bengal
and affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations,
New Delhi for ICSE ( 10 th Std.) and ISC (10 + 2 Std.) Examinations.
The School
with above 3000 students in enrolment , is run by the Giribala Memorial
Trust and a Governing Board Comprising of distinguished educationists
and public figures.
Established
in 1982, MDS enters to 25 years since its inception during the year 2007.
A vision document has been prepared and execution in this direction is
being carried out to make the school as par with the best in the country
in coming years.

MDS is Located
at the heart of Howrah, the sister city of the country's cultural capital,
Kolkata. The Location is well connected with roadways and is only 1 km.
away from Howrah railway station.

The school
academic session is from April to March, The academic year consists of
two terms; each term ends with half yearly and annual examinations respectively.
In the first term, two unit tests as well as in the second term, one unit
test is held. Promotion is granted to students on the basis of Continuous
and Comprehensive Evaluation System of work throughout the academicyear.
Promotion is refused to a student who does not attend at Least 75% of
classes held in one academic year.
Seminar/Symposium/Lecture
session is arranged every alternate Friday for the students of class IX,
X, XI and XII to guide them to seek right choice in academic career. Students
may also avail the opportunity of IQ tests and physhological guidance
conducted by experts/institutes/Council at the School.
In arrangement with the Institute ACCESS, Students of XI and XII are prepared for Joint Entrance Examinations for Engineering and Medical, IITs and other State and National Universities. Students of MDS get a considerable fee concession of Access.
Special Classes are taken for IIT aspirants.

A medical
clinic is run in the school campus in the name of Dr. N.K. Datta Memorial
Health Care Centre. Students and staff are given free medical consultation
by specialists and general physicians. Compulsory medical check up for
each student is done twice a year. Medical facilities are also extended
to outside patients at a nominal charge. Every Thursday, in arrangement
with Helpage India, patients above 50 yeas of age are treated entirely
free at the clinic with medicine provided.
The School
has got an equipped and modern Library With more than 4000 titles. The
School is an Institutional member of British Council Library, Calcutta
division. Strategic support of the British Council Library makes the School
Library more worthwhile to students. The Library remains open from 9 am
to 9 pm each working day and also on holidays as per requirement of students
and teachers for reading and Lending purposes.
The Computer
division of the School is run and managed with the expertise of Maria's
Institute of English and Computer Education (MIECE). The syllabus from
class III to VIII is framed and guided by expert engineers and technicians
of MIECE. In IX, X, XI, XII Council's syllabus is followed.
The school is having teams in Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Chess.
