It
was an era when India had to depend heavily on engineering imports
to service its economy. The need of the hour was self-reliance,
especially after independence.
Realizing
this, Mr. B. B. Lahiri, then a young, energetic engineer, envisioned
developing machines with a total indigenous know-how and material.
To give his dream a concrete shape, Mr. Lahiri thoroughly trained
himself in U.K. and Switzerland. He gathered first hand experience
in reputed organizations like Bird Co. and IISCO on his return.
Finally
in 1962, his dream become a reality in the form of Plant &
Equipment Engineering Company (PEECO) in Howrah, West Bengal -
a company developing world class hydraulic machines with complete
indigenous technology.
The
company had started cost-effective indigenous operations, in designing
and manufacturing items like Hydraulic Power Packs, Presses for
tyre, Rubber Sole and Engineering Industry, etc. In the year 1968,
the constitution of the company subsequently changed to Peeco
Hydraulic Pvt. Ltd.
Continuous
and tireless efforts by Mr. Lahiri gained prestigious clients
in the Indian Railways, the Defense Ministry and other large industries
- both in Public and Private Sectors, for hydraulic machinery,
developed and manufactured by PEECO:
-
Specially-built

A
journey embarked upon by Mr. B. B. Lahiri, a farsighted technocrat
four decades ago, has carved
a
