A top grade artiste of Akashvani and Doordarshan has appeared in the National Programmes and Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan various times. B.B.C. TV has also telecast her programme.                

She is Sangeet Pravin (M.Muse) from Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad. 

She has participated in many prestigious Music Conferences & concerts of major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Patna, Varanasi, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Goa Etc. ln abroad - Asia Festival in Commonwealth Institute, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London Collecium in London, Universities of Oxford & Sessex in UK, University of California in World Conference of Indian Art & Culture (Sponsored by India Council for Cultural Relations) Ali Akbar College of Music, USA. Also performed in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Paris and other cities abroad. She Was on tour in UK organised by Assian Music Curcuit of London.
 
She has perfofmed in "Thumri" evening organised by Indian Embassy, Washington D.C In this tour other major events were - "Chhandayan" all night classical Music Conference, New Yourk, Asian music performing Arts, Toronto. Ottawa classical music concert, Rag - Mala classical night Edmonton and other places of U.S.A. & Canada. India Festival - Amsterdam.

Apart from performances she has conducted a number of workshops, participated in lecture demonstrations and seminars on Thumri.
The Govt. of India has awarded her the Seniour fellowship in the field of music of Benaras. Other tittles she was conferred were “SURAMANI” and "KASHI - RATNA". She has rendered her voice in the film "Meeting a Mile Stone" on Ustad Bismilla Khan, produced by N.F.D.C. & Bengali films like 'Chokher Bali and 'Harbert'.
Indian and French companirs have released her CD's and cassettes.
Purnima Chaudhuri is the founder of "Swarganga" music circle.

About The Music :

Thumri is known as the romantic aspect of Hindustani Classical Music. It is less formal than Khayal. Emotional aspect play major role. In the Climax rhythmic patterning with tabla (Laggi and Laykari) makes the listeners spell bound.
 

Tappa –
Adopted in Purab Ang, Benaras Gharana, the lyrics are mostly in Punjabi dialect. Sung in twisted fast taan.
Chaity-
It is exciting - sung in summer, depicts emotion of pathos due to separation of lover and beloved.
Hori –
Sung during Holi (color festival) expressions of Jubilation are there.
Kajri –
Sung in rainy season, emotion of romance and in some songs the feelings of absence of  lover is there. It depicts the rains, clouds and thunders with beautiful lyrics.
