Guru Smt. Aloka Kanungo

 

BAISHALI KOLAY is an exceptionally gifted dancer of immense potential. She is an outstanding product of Saurabh, Dance and Music Academy and has performed in the lead roles in their dance dramas.

 

In her childhood, she was trained by Smt. Paravati Samajpati, who recognized her talent. Thereafter, she came under the tutelage of the renowned Odissi exponent Smt. Aloka Kanungo, who nurtured her talent and after years of vigorous training under strict supervision she emerged in a full-formed Odissi dancer.

 

Under the able guidance of Smt. Aloka Kanungo, Baishali has obtained the Sangeet Kriya Visharad with distinction from Saurabh. She is the proud recipient of the Junior National Scholarship from the Centre of Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi and the Senior National Scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resources, New Delhi. She has the rear distinction of receiving first prizes both from Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy and Nehru Talent Search Contest. She has also bagged prize from Yuva Festival and has also took part in several workshops of the renowned maestro Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

 

Baishali has also performed at a number of noteworthy festivals under the present Guru Smt. Aloka Kanungo, such as, Konark Dance Festival; Puri Beach Festival; Vishwa Hindu Sammelan, Baroda; Vishnupur Dance & Music Festival; Srirampur Music Conference; Uday Sankar Festival; Choreography Festival; Youth Guild Young Dancer’s Cultural Festival; Festival of Kala Vikas Kendra, Cuttack; Festival of Centre of Cultural Resources and Training in Bangalore; Ganapati Festival organized by the Karnatak Association and at other prestigious programmes in Calcutta and all over India and UK.

 

A regular artiste of Calcutta Doordarshan Kendra since from her childhood, Baishali has also performed in the closing ceremony of Tourism Week of Tourism Department, Government of India.

 

Blessed with a bewitching stage presence and eloquent eyes, Baishali is adept in both nrutta and abhinaya. A student of Humanity she finds time for acting and tennis.
