As S.H.O. in the North Middlesex Hospital I was solely responsible for all the eye casualties (daily turnover of approximately 60 patients), clerked in patients for theatre and regularly attended diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma clinics. I had the opportunity to use the Argon and Yag Laser and became very familiar with the practice, technique and interpretation of fluorescein angiograms. I took every opportunity to attend clinical meetings at University College Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and the Royal Society of Medicine.
As consultant at the Whipps Cross Hospital, I attended two busy general clinics and one supervision clinic (Diabetic Retinopathy). I had four operating sessions where I operated under supervision and unsupervised and was responsible for the immediate post operative care management of these patients.
I held a laser clinic on Friday mornings where a large number of Argon and Yag Laser are performed.
I undertook clinical photography of my own occasionally in the course of performing fluorocein angiograms.
I was actively involved in teaching the ophthalmic S.H.O's and casualty officers at Whipps College Hospital and organizing meetings for G.P.'s. With complete and modern Phaco-emulsification equipment in theatre, I had experience in this method of cataract surgery. I have performed over 4000 Lasers in my very own Laser Clinic.
I avail of every opportunity to attend teaching sessions Royal Free Hospital, the U.C.H. and I also attend the External Eye Diseases Clinic and Friday afternoons at Moorfields Eye hospital as Honorary Registrar to Mr. J.K.G.Dart. (my official study afternoon). This has given me clinical experience in various common and rare diseases of external eye. My work at the Herts and Essex Hospital as Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist in much the same as it was at Whipps Cross Hospital with experience in Outpatient work, Theatre and Laser Clinics.
