Rhynoplasty means reconstruction of nose. It may be Reduction
Rhynoplasty or Augmentation Rhynoplasty. By reduction rhynoplasty
excessively sharp nose or parrot beak shaped curved nose is
made smaller and straighter. By augmentation rhynoplasty depressed
nose is made elevated and sharp. Augmentation can be done
by grafting bone taken from patient’s own body or by
introducing Silicon Prosthesis available commercially. Both
have got their own merits and demerits. In a small percentage
of cases bone graft gets totally absorbed but being a substance
of patient’s own body , it is not rejected. On the other
hand silicon prosthesis is never absorbed but being a foreign
body, in a small percentage of cases it is rejected. Operation
requires general anaesthesia and hospital admission.
