Patients
own hair is taken from back of scalp and transplanted
over bald areas by follicular unit technique. This hair
is permanent, grows normally, needs hair cut & shampooing.
Also done over moustache, beard and eye brows.
This
is one of the commonest cosmetic surgery performed.
Baldness is usually hereditary and may be of male or
female type. It can be done in any age & sex in
an adult person.
Transplanted hair is natural hair, which grows normally,
needs hair cut, shampooing, can be transplanted in limited
hair lost areas of eyebrows, moustache & beard also.
This is 5 to 6 hours surgery, done under local anaesthesia.
Patient can move around, eat, drink & enjoy music
and movies during surgery.
Operation is done under local anaesthesia. Donar hair
is taken from posterior part of scalp & area is
closed directly. The area of scalp with hair is divided
into small pieces called pluks (or follicles). each
containing 1 to 4 hair roots. They are transplanted over
bald area. This is called Minimicrograph Technique &
Follicular Unit Transfer Technique (FUT).
In persons where adequate number of scalp hair is not available for transplantation, body hair can be taken and transplanted over scalp. This is called Body Hair Transparent (BHT) or follicular extraction technique
(FUE). This sutcherless technique can be done in case of scalp hair transplant also.
Transplanted hair takes 3 to 6 months to grow. The donar
area is not visible. In the post operative period Minoxidil
is applied locally along with oral medicines. Patient
can go home on the same day and can join to office on
the next day.
Some of the hairs which are transplanted along with some normal hairs may fall in first two weeks which may be around 2% - 5% in male and upto 15% approx. in females. This is called Telogen hair Loss. Within One & half Months. All hairs start going including which also has fallen because the transplanted hair root remain viable or alive within the scalp. The hair which grows is permanent, grows after hair cut even after shaving of scalp.
