Certification, Technical Appraisal and inspection of ships
mobile drilling units, fixed offshore platforms, mooring
systems etc. IRS has been notified by the Govt. of India
as the authority for assigning loadlines to Indian ships
on its behalf. IRS also carries an International Ship and
Port Security (ISPS) & Ship Safety Management System
(SMC).
The
multidisciplinary services of IRS are supported by high
technical competence. Technical services of IRS are driven
by the needs and expectation of its clients, and by a need
to continually raise efficiency as well as maintain an edge
in a field where levels of technology and services are competitive

The
various technical services provided include:
Design
Appraisal of new buildings
IRS
carries out design appraisal of new buildings to ensure
compliance with its Rules. These cover hull structure, engines,
generators, steering gear, propeller, electrical, piping
and control systems, and other special machinery components.
Design
Appraisal of existing ships
Existing
ships, not built under IRS supervision, can also be classed
with IRS; but only after ensuring, through due examination
including appraisal of plans that such ships are in conformity
with IRS Rules.
Design
Appraisal of ships and its equipment for compliance with
Statutory Conventions / Codes
IRS
carries out statutory design appraisal on behalf of Flag
States, when so authorized by the respective governments,
to International Maritime Organization Conventions and Codes.
Specific additional requirements of Flag States, if any
to ensure safety of life, property and protection of environment
are also covered.
Appraisal
of plans for clients' proposed modifications and repair
This
includes a broad range of focus areas like:
* Examination of existing plans of a vessel to assess
its suitability for modification,
* Compliance with new Regulations, etc.
Type
Approval of Products
IRS
provides a Certification scheme for approval of products
for installation on ships classed or intended to be classed
with IRS. The scheme is intended to provide confidence to
the end user that such products, when built to the same
design in a similar manner either under survey on an individual
basis or under a series production system under manufacturer's
own quality assurance system, will continue to meet all
the requirements of the product specifications. Such a certification
scheme is called Typpe Approval of Products.
