Float chargers are normally used in standby application.

A Float charger is primarily meant for providing stabilized DC power to a critical DC load. A battery is always connected parallely with the load, that is battery floats across the load. During power outage this battery provides instant back-up support to the critical load without any interruption. Float charger may be called a DC UPS.
