well-known exponent of Nazrulgeeti; had his initial grooming
in Classical Music under Late Samarendra Deb Raikut and later
under the legendary Late Sangeetacharya Tarapada Chakraborty.
Learnt Nazrulgeeti from Late Girin Chakraborty, Late Sukumar
Mitra and Sri Biman Mukherjee.
“Sangeet
Visharad” from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith and “Sangeet
Probhakar” from Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad.
Developed
the art of playing Harmonium under the tutelage of Pandit
Sohanlal Sharma. Aided by his knowledge of Vocal Music, he
bloomed into a competent and sensitive Harmonium accompanist and
had provided accompaniment to Late Vishmadev Chatterjee, Late A. Kanan, Late Ustad
Sagiruddin Khan, Late Srikant Bakre, Srimati Mira Banerjee.
Pandit Arun Bhadury, and Ustad Rashid Khan etc.
Regular
artiste in All India Radio and Doordarshan. Participated in many
Music concerts at different stations of All India Radio and gave
recitals before the invited audiences.
Spotted
by the talent scouts of the HMV and released quite a good number
of Gramophone Records cut by them. There are also several
cassettes & CD’s made by various other companies.
He
is also an eminent teacher having been imparting training to
young aspirants in all sorts of Bengali Songs and Classical
Music.
Connected
with the West Bengal Music Academy as an empanelled Judge and
Trainer and had done various workshops.
