With her first album Parichay released by Raga Music Company in 2004, Susmita Mukherjee is one of the new talents in modern Bengali songs. In a very short time she has established herself as a singer with great promise. One of her Parichay songs sung in duet with Subhankar Bhaskar, 'Megher balish mathay diyey' is already a hit. Susmita took her initial training in music from her mother, and has been since groomed by Tapas Chowdhury, Jyoti Prakash Chattopadhyay and Mrinal Banerjee the eminent composer.
The range of songs and modes she covers is wide enough to include Bhojpori songs, and film songs in the films (Bengali) Asha and Pratham Prem. Hindi film Ghatak, lyric was written by eminent lyricist Nawab Arzoo. She has participated in a joint venture with singers of the stature of Udit Narayan, Sudesh Bhonsle, Jolly Mukherjee, Babul Supriyo; and sung compositions by Mrinal Banerjee.
